metrogirl
Do you feel that you are at a lower risk of adverse health problems because you might smoke less than someone else? Link to comment

jengh
anywhere from 0-10.... Some days, I don't smoke. Others, I'm stressed/bored/drunk and will smoke a few. Link to comment
BeStrongBeHappy
Whether you *feel* you're at lower risk is kind of irrelevant... what is relevant is whether you *are* at lower risk or not. A lot depends on your own genetics and how long you've smoked. I had a physiology professor tell me that if you smoked less than 3 cigarettes a day, your body most likely would be able to clean the toxins from your lungs and system. But if you have a pre-disposition to lung problems or cancer in your family, then it may still be risky. The other problem is that very few people are able to smoke less than 3 cigarettes a day and stick to that... btw, i smoke no cigarettes at all and haven't since i was 18, when i was dumb enough to smoke 2 packs a day for about 18 months. I quit when i realized i was huffing and puffing to just get up stairs, which i shouldn't have been at that age. I just felt crappy all the time, and didn't realize how good i could feel again until i quit smoking and returned to normal. Link to comment
ResonanceTheory
Never smoked a cigarette. EVER. Both my parents were smokers and I had plenty of chances to, but never the desire. And yes, I feel like I am far, far better off for it. My mother smokes about one or two cigarettes a day these days, and I still worry about the hours that each one takes off of her life. metrogirl
i hope nobody answers that last option. I put that option because I was running errands the other day and overheard a guy telling someone else that he didn't have time to make it to the store to get his cigs and the topic went on about how he smokes 4 packs a day! I thought to myself, I'm suprised he can still breathe. Link to comment

COtuner
Never smoked, refuse to smoke, won't date a guy who smokes, but I worked as a cocktail waitress for a couple years so I probably inhaled the equivalent of a semi truck of cigarettes worth of smoke Link to comment

Both my parents were heavy smokers and always smoked in the house. I don't smoke, never have but I'm sure there are probably some spots on my lungs. Link to comment
lost1607307474
I used to smoke about 1-10 a day in my younger days, but then I grew up and realised I wanted to look after my health. Link to comment

LBP
I dislike cigarettes, all they do is make me feel nauseated... But I don't pressure other people to feel bad because they smoke. Link to comment
Supa_gurl
I replace cigarettes with sex. much healthier! lol...In my dreams!! When I talk to my mom and give her a hard time about smoking she says "well I went down to lights" IMO lights---full flavor? Both just as toxic. Link to comment
Kyoshiro Ogari
Never smoked and never will. Link to comment
Binoo
As children, my brother and I would make No Smoking signs out of construction paper and stick them all over our dad. He ended up quitting eventually after almost 20 years of heavy smoking [ probably got sick of all the paper signs ]. I don't have a problem with people smoking [ as long as they don't blow too much in my face or pressure me to have one ] but I do worry about their health. Link to comment

Both just as toxic. Sounds like my mom. Even after her stroke, she continues with the smoking. "But I've switched to lights and cut out 10 cigs a day." That's good, but it's just not enough when you have been smoking since you were a teen and over a pack a day. And cancer and strokes run in the family. Scary stuff. Her stroke was actually what set me in motion to quit. I was smoking about a pack a day and it's been about 1 1//2 to 2 years since I quit. Best thing I ever did. It's amazing what kind of twisted thinking can come out of people's mouths though when they are addicted. I know I did the same thing when I was smoking. The addiction first, then find rationalizations to do what you are going to do! Link to comment

Exactly like my mom too, she had a stroke. the 2 weeks she was in the hospital she survived with out cigs, but the minute her feet hit the pavement it was 'I will only smoke lights from now on...". psh! whatever. amtjrtcet
I don't smoke....I use to when I was in high school to be 'cool', then I prolly smoked a pack a day, mostly in the car...or when I was drinking..... but I got over that. I hate to see a woman smoking, I think it makes her less attractive.....men too. I hated the way it made me smell....and now that I'm in nursing school and I actually realize what it does to you, no way. Link to comment
dangletsbang
I just recently quit smoking. I've only smoked about a year..but for the past couple months I can tell they were already taking a toll on me..most like due to the fact that I have asthma. I never really smoked much unless I was drinking. I smoked probably 1 to 10 a day. The past couple of weeks they've just become disgusting to me, last week I couldn't even smoke a whole one. I just realized this morning that I haven't smoked in almost a whole week, and I haven't even craved one once! However, my boyfriend is still smoking..and i'm hoping he will give it up soon as well. I'm serious about him and I don't want to him to jeopardize his health just for a damn cigarette. I work as a medical receptionist and we had a man come in here smelling like a cigarette factory who stated that he smoked five packs of cigarettes a day, if not more. He was carrying an oxygen tank. HOW DOES THAT MAKE SENSE? Why would you keep doing that to yourself? Link to comment
FortunateOne
How about those of us that never smoke? We're excluded and feel left out of the poll. I will say that when I was eight years old I asked my mother what smoking is like. She said I should experience it for myself. She went to the store, purchased cigarettes, came home to light a couple up, asked me to go to the closet, put me in the closet and said I couldn't come out until I finished both cigarettes. Boy, did I ever quickly kick the habit in one sitting and never smoked thereafter. Link to comment
