Ac143
Ok... so I got a pretty big mosquito bite a few days ago right in the corner of my right eye. Its big, red, swollen & looks like someone hit me in my eye lol. I took benedryl? Bought benedryl itch cream, put ice on it so the swollening goes down...Nothing. I woke up today & it looks more swollen. Its only been 2-3 days but this thing is driving me nuts, plus now inside my eye feels itchy. Such A PAIN! Help! Anything to make this thing go away faster? I don't know what will help the swelling go down, but I know that rubbing alcohol, or even rubbing regular vodka on the bite cools it off. It always helps me. Link to comment
JadedStar
Hmm, i have never had a mosquito bite last over a day. I am surprised it is still bothering you that much after 2-3 days. Link to comment
Ac143
Yeah its driving me crazy. It looks & feels like a mosquito bite but Im not medical expert lol so it could be something else, I guess right? It not huge its just as big as all other mosquito bites I have gotten but never cared cause they weren't on my face Im scared to put rubbing alcohol on it cause its soooo close to my eye. Guess I need to be very very careful My SO said to leave it alone & will go away but I want it to go away fasterrrrrr lol Link to comment
BeStrongBeHappy
The best thing on mosquito bites is Cortisone cream like Cortaid. Just put some on the bite and the swelling will go right down. Most swelling from bites is an allergic reaction, so the topical Cortaid takes it right down. Link to comment
hers
Use a q-tip to dab the alcohol on it. Be very careful. A mosquito bite shouldn't be there that long. Those only swell b/c theve punctured your skin & sucked a little, but they go down pretty fast if left alone. Be careful it's not staph infection. Does it feel hard & hot to the touch? A mosquito bite is still a little squishy in textture, even if swollen. Staph is hard. You may have to get it looked at if it doesn't go down soon. Link to comment
BeStrongBeHappy
Some people are very allergic to mosquito bites. Mosquitos inject a numbing substance similar to novocaine so you aren't as aware the bug is biting you so they have time to drink the blood and get away without you swatting them. Some people are very allergic to the substance they inject, which could explain the swelling... i react very badly and it will stay swollen and itchy for a long long time, even a couple weeks. Ac143
Its not hot to touch, when I touch it - it instantly feels itchy & I want to scratch it all the time, which is why I think its red & swollen Link to comment
ghost69
i always take my nail and make an 'X' over the top of where it bit. goes down within an hour after that. works really well. never had one on my eye that i had to try though. Link to comment

This is odd - my best friend ALWAYS told me to do that, I never did cause I thought she was a nut haha. Guess it works, huh? I never had a bite right near my eye either, its annoying & doesn't look pleasant at all. Link to comment

Guess I need to be very very careful My SO said to leave it alone & will go away but I want it to go away fasterrrrrr lol I wouldn't be so sure it is a mosquito bite then. If you are one of the few who reacts to them badly you would know that by now as you have been bitten on other places before I am sure. If you never reacted this way and if the bite was gone as normal in 24 hours then i doubt that is a mosquito bite on your eye. If you have been known for mosquito bites to last that long then that would make more sense. If you do not consistently take 2-3 days or longer for mosquito bites to go away that isn't the problem. YOu haven't changed makeup by any chance have you? Or using any that is old? This happened ot me once and come to find out the mascara i was using was old and caused a bump on my eyelid that drove me crazy. I eventually figured out it was the make up. Mascara goes bad very quickly. I used the wrong one, i had a really old one and a new one in a drawer....why i didn't toss the old one i am not sure but i used it by mistake. Wiping the eye with clean cotton balls and warm compresses will also help the itch and swelling. On the off chance this is not a bite and an infection instead toss the cotton ball after each wipe as it will continue to spread the infection if you don't. Link to comment
Ac143
My mosquito bites do usually last about a week. So I tried everything in the book last night, rubbing alcohol, the "x" lol, cortisone cream, ice, etc...& something helped. I dont know what but its not swollen anymore. Now just looks like a very small mosquito bite thanks all. Jaded - nope I didn't change make up & actually the last week or 2 I haven't even worn mascara, I been getting up very very early for work and completely lazy lol. I need to put some on, I look half asleep without it haha. Link to comment

Ac143
it was the 'X' lol, you're a clown. I will try this X thing again next time I have a mosquito bite & see if it help. Link to comment
ghost69
lol, you're a clown. I will try this X thing again next time I have a mosquito bite & see if it help. just sayin it always helped me. i never use anything else anymore. i used to use hydrocortisone to relieve the itch, but after a while of it on, it would itch again and remain swollen. maybe it did or didn't work for you as you used a combination of things. maybe it's a piece of mind thing that once i do it, my head says 'it will go down' and magically it does. lol Link to comment
Ac143
No I wasnt being sarcastic or anything...it might have actually helped but I wont know until I try it again without all the other stuff. I still find it funny that my best friend always did this & told me to do it but I never listened! Go figure.. Link to comment
