waveseer
I just completed and filed the paperwork for my divorce. This is a HUGE stress reliever for me and I feel a great weight has been lifted from my shoulders. One curious side-effect has been that my hair has relaxed. My hair? That's a new one for me. So how has stress or it's relief affected you? Link to comment
lost1607307474
Stress has affected my physical health in a big way. Whenever I'm going through a stressful time in my life I lose weight, lose hair, get headaches, and get sick all the time. I really need to work on de-stressing myself to gain back my physical health. Link to comment

gidget1
I have always been pretty high-strung, anxious, stressed, although I thrive in stressful situations, it's usually the little things that stress me out and really have an affect on me. I get sick, congested, have migraines, lose lots of weight, get jaw/ear aches from grinding my teeth from stress, not to mention tiny bitten fingernails. I started doing yoga & meditation, as well as more exercise (I got an awesome push bike!) and my health turned around pretty fast. It's a good stress relief to meditate as well as exercise & whenever I am feeling stressed now, I let out all that energy that sort of builds up inside me and makes me feel totally wired.. It works & I am more relaxed the last few months. I always know that I'm relaxed and happy when I actually have fingernails to speak of. When I am my most stressed, I bite them all off. Right now they're really healthy and that alone motivates me to de-stress Link to comment
lost1607307474
lost!, do you practice any relaxation techniques? I've just started doing yoga morning and night, and also relaxing myself and practicing visualisation before I go to sleep. I don't really know of any other significant relaxation techniques... perhaps this is something I should look into. Link to comment
top bloke
My main goal was to try and be relaxed as possible the past few years. I find i actually breathe easier ,my joints dont hurt and you enjoy every moment better because your mind feels more uncluttered .....clearer. Link to comment

If you could learn to meditate that would probably help you quite a bit too. It's not all that different than the visualization that you are already doing. Link to comment

It's evident that there is an incredibly strong connection between stress levels and physical health. Link to comment

stella74
I went through a period of extreme stress and lost a bunch of hair! I took a workshop through my HMO on managing stress and it helped a lot. The main thing I learned is that negative thinking can cause stress, so it's important to keep a positive attitude. The other thing I learned is that breathing is very important in relieving stress. That's why relaxation techniques, yoga, meditation, etc. are all helpful because they all focus on breathing. Any sort of physical exercise is good too, as well as eating a good diet and getting enough sleep. Link to comment

Just everything really. I'm a stresser. Whatever issue comes up in my life, instead of getting through it productively I just stress about it - uni, health issues, money, self... Not very healthy. But you're right, I just need to learn how to stay positive and get through them, and minimise stress. Link to comment

So how has stress or it's relief affected you? Wow. I can't stress the effects of stress on health enough! If you have chronic conditions (herpes for instance) it will flare up right away. I get excema on my hands if I stress out for prolonged periods. Headaches, tension, blood pressure.. JUst to name a few. I've also heard stress can activate dormant cancer cells (or something like that). So whenever I feel stress coming I take deep breaths right away and try to clear my mind. Link to comment
