thorpe Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 Every morning I wake to NPR begging me to send a dozen red roses to my sweetheart. Their pledge drives are annoying, but doubly so when they tempt me to express my "love" for the ex.
HereAndNow Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 I chuckled when I saw your thread because I was thinking exactly the same thing this morning about the NPR's Valentine's day pledge drive. I am painfully aware there is no Valentine in my life and I don't need to be reminded of that by my radio news station every morning, just tell me what's going on in Gaza, thank you.
JohnGalt Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 I used to send my ex flowers and candy from a bunch of different websites. And now they constantly email me about sending my ex something specifically for V-day. I HATE IT!!!! And they have the nerve to put her name in the subject line. "N, Send R beautiful roses for Valentines!" I wish I knew all the websites i sent from over 6 years so I could filter them. I would put her name as a filter to the trash, but I don't want to miss an email from her if one should come through. Bleh.
KG Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 Here, they have "Silent February." For every $100 dollars pledged, they will cut out one money drive day in March.
jennamajig Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 I hate the fact that since I send my mother flowers for special occasions, that I am now on their mailing list at this time of year. Every e-mail is send the person you love roses! I just hit "delete." I'm visiting my folks this weekend. And I'll buy chocolates for the one guy that has been there for me whenever I needed him: My Dad
BeStrongBeHappy Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 Remember that all their talk about love is really about making money! If they find a hook to make money, they use it.
thorpe Posted February 12, 2009 Author Posted February 12, 2009 I just noticed ProFlowers actually has a Valentine's banner ad on here

Interestingly enough, Valentine's day isn't bothering me yet. It was Christmas that was hard...I just avoid the Valentine's displays at CVS right now. Now when Russel Stovers is marked 75% off in a week, I might just buy myself a chocolate heart, because gosh-darn-it, Russel Stovers can be like crack for me sometimes That and those Cadbury eggs that are now out because of Easter...

Those eggs with the fondant filling are evilly good..........
