ThaWarden Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 Just a simple question to anyone, how do you distinguish between boring and simple? I would like to consider myself the ladder of the two, you def. won't be bored to sleep around me but yet what I am into isn't all that exciting.
Batya33 Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 To me boring is a person who lacks social skills and who doesn't have much going on in his or her life and lacks the motivation or curiosity to learn about the world or people around him/her. Simple to me is a person who lacks the intelligence to learn about the world around him/her. Another definition of "simple" is a person who lives a simple lifestyle - not too many material things, not many activities or hobbies - sort of has a routine/habitual life. I think there are probably other definitions but those are two that come to mind.
Wolf_22 Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 Just a simple question to anyone, how do you distinguish between boring and simple? I would like to consider myself the latter of the two, you def. won't be bored to sleep around me but yet what I am into isn't all that exciting. I think the outcome of that distinction depends on the person you ask. Some people will equate simple to being boring while others may think that boring is completely exclusive to simplicity. Who's really right? Personally, I believe that having a simple life is a great life. No news is good news (as my father always says) and with that, comes peace--but once again, that's my personalized perspective as we all vary greatly with how we define our realities. Boring, on the other hand, to me, is equivalent with someone whom lacks the ability to be "cross browser friendly" (as we say in the web world). If you lack the people skills needed to make ends meet during a conversation, then to me, you are boring. In the end, it all depends on your motives. In the end (part deux), nobody is really boring nor simple. Communication is much like a computer with it's cover still on: after you take it off, you see how complex everything is inside. No matter how boring or simple someone may appear to be, once you break through their walls, you collide with a world that you never knew existed. It's the outcome of this collision that's the defining moment between positive and negative experience.
rusty_boi Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 Boring is a person who doesnt really speak despite you asking open ended questions, or who has different likes to you that you would find uninteresting. Simple is a person who doesnt have layers, in the sense that they like what they like and live their life and that is it. They arent the type of person who you keep finding out new stuff about.
ghost69 Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 simple would be boring to me, but exciting to another.
Simply Brett Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 I'm sure this has been said before but a line "I made up" goes something like this: "Boring people get bored, it's that simple." My interests may not be very fascinating to some of you, but I do not get bored because I see the world in a different way. It may be comforting for some people to call me "Simple" because I can stare at a tree all day and be in awe just admiring the size, shape, bark, color, texture etc but that doesn't make me simple or boring by any means. That makes me Brett. If anybody ever tells you that you are boring, they obviously don't know you well enough. I met someone once who didn't speak much, and didn't laugh at any of my jokes. We became good friends because we had 1 thing in common which was enjoying exercise. We walked around outside together, that was what we did. I did not call her boring, or dull, or simple for being silent while we walked. She did not call me uninteresting, or pathetic for being so blown away by the color of the grass which we walked upon. She happened to be an avid reader, and novel enthusiast, that's not my cup of tea but by no stretch of the imagination does that equate to her being boring. She is probably one of the most intelligent people that most people will never get to know because they can't see past the things they do NOT have in common.
