lost1607307474 Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 I just can't get to sleep at night. I hop into bed but just end up lying there, tossing and turning, for hours on end. It's 3.15am here at the moment and I just can't sleep. I know I'm going to feel the effects of my lack of sleep tomorrow but I cannot for the life of me get to sleep. This happens almost every night now. I just don't know what to do!
FireInHeaven Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 Try laying very still and breathing deep. Count to ten when you inhale, then count to ten again when you exhale. It's a meditation technique, but it's ver calming. And, in the future try some velerian root. You can buy it in pill for or in tea.
purpleduckie Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 do you excercise? i had the worst time trying to sleep until i started going to the gym again. how is your diet? do you eat a ton of junk? what about caffein? cut that out.

I am a very active person, exercise regularly, have a great diet, and don't drink coffee (or any kind of caffeine) or each much junk food. I don't know what it is! :S But I will try the suggestions...
pleeze.help Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 What kind of things are running through you head? I have an idea. I hope you consider trying it. It works for me. Try laying down and listening to the noises going on around you. Focus on a specific noise and listen to it. Your thoughts will be there, but in the background. Don't put so much emphasis on them. Just let them be there, but concentrate on the noise around you.

Anything and everything runs through my head. Even if I lie very still and try not to move my brain keeps thinking away and I just can't sleep. It's driving me crazy! I'm staring to get really bad headaches during the day because I just can't sleep properly at night! I will try your idea... thanks And thank you everybody else for the input. More suggestions or advice would be great still.
purpleduckie Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 when do you excercise? i heard that if you are very active late at night... you'll have trouble sleeping. it's the same with eating late. i know what it feels like, the headache that will come in the morning when you can't sleep.. so infuriating.

I started taking Ambien years ago and can't get off of it....If I don't take a pill for 3 days I won't sleep for 3 days! Plus it makes some people do crazy things.....If you want a good laugh, you can find my Ambien thread in the OT section....

I definitely haven't considered taking sleep aids just yet - I'm not really one for taking pills for these sorts of problems. I am hoping I am rectify the problem some other way.
