Is it normal to think of your ex 3 years after the breakup?

Recommended Posts

Well... long story- short, we went out for a year, broke up, and I was pretty upset about this and this went on for about a year. She came to me a year after we broke up and confronted me about why I was so upset, and once we had that talk I began to let go.

Things were pretty good, it's been about 2 and a half years about since we broke up, but recently I've had dreams of her and me just being happy. I don't like it and I don't know how to make it stop, but it's just recently surfaced and it's upsetting me. We're far apart now, different colleges and gone our ways. She still messages me from time to time online, but I don't know how to make it go away. I know its time to move on, but something holds me back and I don't know what it is, something keeps pushing me back towards the past, and I know I just want to hear what I want to hear but I know it's never gonna happen, and the truth will only upset me.

I don't know if this is even normal... anyone else experience this?

Having feelings for an ex (or even thinking about her) seems normal to me. I think many of us at one time or another have thoughts about an ex. As cliche as it seems, I still catch myself thinking about my first true love ... and that was 20 years ago!

Now having thoughts and obsessing over an ex are two different things. As long as you're not obsessing and it isn't poses problems in a current relationship, it seems harmless.
