No appetite. What's wrong with me?

I'm not really quite sure what the deal is, but I'd say since Weds I've had a REALLY low appetite, and get full REALLY fast whenever I eat anything.

The other night my stomach was hurting REALLY bad. I ate something, and then it started to feel a little better but it was like this sharp abdominal pain. I was sick for a few days and had this horrible cough. It could be because of all the coughing that my abs hurt so bad.

The other day, all I had to eat was a lean cuisine and some raveoli and I was fine with that. I'm not trying to loose weight, I just can't seem to have the apppetite for much.

But the weird thing is, with how little I'm eating I seem to be a little bloated. I start my period next week, so maybe I'm getting the signs early? My stomach sticks out a little and my jeans fit a little tight.

My boyfriend says it's because of the lack of food/nutrition. When you see the starving children, there stomachs always stick out.

But I don't want to gain weight! Also, it seems like the past few days except for today I've had to take multiple doses of headache medicine cuz I've had awful migrains.

Whats the deal?!

Do you take any medications that could be affecting your appetite? The headache/migraine medicine?

I know you worry about gaining weight, but if you are eating so little and have no appetite... it isn't gaining weight that will happen... Soon you will end up struggling to keep weight on, and counting calories to make sure you get enough. If you are truly worried about yourself and your appetite, I'd urge you to speak to your doctor, and to just start making a little journal of what you eat, and the number of calories you are consuming. This way you can address what is going on with you, AND be sure you are getting the proper amount of nutrition. If you can't eat big meals because you get full, try eating several smaller meals. You won't get fat from this.

Studies have shown that women who eat the same amount of calories yet break it down into several smaller meals throughout the day actually lose more weight.

Sounds like you are just bloaty from carbs and water retention. A lot of people are irregular after the holidays.

What about the Lexapro? Didn't you say that affected your appetite? The other stuff could just be irregular motility in the intestines. As for the headaches, maybe dehydration or a reaction to what you ate? Could be hormonal, yes.

I honestly would recommend a full physical based on your posts recently - all the different panels - electrolytes, vitamins, etc etc. Your regular doc can request this stuff and it all comes from a couple blood draws and peeing in a cup. Then you'll know right away if anything is really out of whack.

If not, start eliminating things from your diet one at a time (replacing them with other food you normally eat) and see if anything changes. Then you'll know if you have food sensitivities.

If none of that works, and you're still having problems crop up, I'd suggest going back to the doc. I don't work in medicine, but that's a pretty basic routine to try if you aren't at risk for some major disease.

Yep. I eat 5 small balanced meals a day nearly every day. I'm human, I screw up the routine sometimes! Only time I gain weight is PMS unless there's extenuating circumstances like serious illness or injury.

Yes this is true.... but they lose more weight than those who are eating the same amount of calories lumped into 2-3 bigger meals. In this case Rose may be needing to keep weight on if her appetite doesn't adjust.. could still help.

Smaller meals is just a good all around way to control calorie intake for a low appetite person, as well as for the person who is really worried about weight change.

I'm in the low appetite category myself, I have some sympathy.

I was just stating that it is healthier to break down the meals.

I have absolutely no appetite. Rarely do I feel hungry and I HATE the sensation of being full.

I eat until I am content and that's that.

I mean no disrespect when i say this...but i recommend a pyschiatrist in additon to an MD. I think these issues can also be stemmed from some psychological issues. There is a trend with your posts that stem around "i dont want to gain weight" and a need for affirmation. In addition to a full physical check up I would talk about this with a therapist.

gotcha

totally with you there... I hate feeling full, and I have to make sure I'm eating enough.

I am always watching my scale to make sure I haven't lost more pounds, yet I do feel for Rose, or for so many girls, because it is engrained in my mind, and many of our minds, to still fear gaining weight as well... even if that may not be our trend even.

I don't have that problem. My weight swings a lot (15 pounds regularly) but it stays within my BMI and I'm in good shape so I am not concerned.

I only go on the scale for doctor's appointments.

I think how you feel is so much more important.

This is my normal. Some days I am insatiably hungry, and others I really don't care for food. I just don't get hungry. When I get hungry, I eat. Rose, I'd say don't worry about it too much. Even if it is IBS, docs really can't do anything for it anyways... just learn what food triggers the bloating and discomfort (sometimes downright PAIN) and keep track of what you eat, and how it affects you. Two weeks before my period I get really unstoppably hungry (this is a good time to eat extra foods with iron) and a week before, I am either not hungry at all, or slightly nauseous. It's like clockwork, and you get used to the natural rhythms of your body eventually. PS. having a bit of extra weight is NOT the end of the world like you think it is.

Well see, this sometimes happens periodically, but just this week it's started. Prob because I've been sick.

The lexapro, yes does cut my appetite but I usualy have no problem with eating regular meals and getting hungry and eating. It could be just as of lately with being sick and all, I've had so much Nyquil, and like asprin and stuff that maybe it's reacting.

It could be IBS. Because I have that gas pain.

I have a 24" waist. VERY small. But one time I went to visit my boyfriend, and I wasn't able to go to the bathroom in like a week. Number 2. My waist had stretched to like a 25.5" because I had SO much crap in me. I had like 2 enimas that week, and once it didn't even work. I used to many pills to get myself to poop. IT was horribly painful, and I felt so disgusting and huge and I was just crying and crying.

I wasn't like this yesterday, so I don't know why I am now. I'm prob getting ready to start the bloating for my period. Even though I'm not supposed to start it until NEXT Weds or Thurs. I usualy get symptoms a week or so early though.

Yeah rose, after I eat certain things I get a stomach pain and sometimes feel nauseus.

Yesterday my stomach didn't hurt until I ate tomato soup. Then it felt like there was this knife poking my belly and I was nauseus.

I usualy get slightly nauseus at night though, after I take my b-control.

Aww hun I know all too well how bad the bloating feels. I have a pair of pants reserved for days when my stomach is really off and I can't wear anything else. Try and stay away from acidic foods and any "white" carbs. White bread, white pasta, etc... Also try and avoid really salty foods, and fatty foods. I know that ground beef (lean or not) causes me issues, so it could be the same for you too. Everyone is different though. Just track what you eat. I hope for your sake this is a passing phase.

This was a while bck. Like in September.

The doctor told me to use the enima and the pills. But she didn't know I used TWO enimas in the same week.

The 1st enima worked great and I swear I had like 1 weeks worth of crap in the toilet lol.

the 2nd one didn't work, all that came out was water.

Another thing is, I've been really tired lately.

It's prob due to not eating enough my boyfriend told me.

What's weird though I wasn't bloated til AFTER I worked out at the gym.

It's annoying, I do my work outs at home every night but I haven't been able to this last week because of being sick, and I haven't been to the gym in awhile.

I went with a friend today. Yet for some reason whenever I get back from the gym I always seem to be bloated???
