jengh
man, I'm a pop junkie...I hear ya on this one. Try cutting back slowly... like by a can a day or something Link to comment
jengh
Another thing you can do is switch to Perrier or San Peligrino and squeeze some lime juice in it.. It's not the same but it's still carbonated. Link to comment
Mythical_Suicide
You are addicted to the caffeine.. Slowly cut out your intake, just like with any drug (yes, caffeine is a drug!) that you take you will feel crappy at first but try only drinking them in moderation. Link to comment
Himynamesbob
stop buying soda. if ther's no soda in the house how can you drink it? Link to comment
lady00
You just kinda have to force yourself to cut back slowly. I used to be a soda/caffeine addict. Now I am down to 2 cups of coffee per day, max and I rarely have soda. It's just something you have to train yourself to do, one bottle at a time. Force yourself to select other options. Water is ideal. Even fruit juice is better (far better would be an actual fruit) because even though the amount of sugar is the same, there is no caffeine and there are nuitrients (like vitamin C). But ideally you should switch to water. Link to comment
Miss Firecracker
I had the problem for years, but gradually I changed to coffee. Just a cup a day, then two, three, four, etc. Now I hardly think of Coke at all. Link to comment
Wolf_22
Hey, pop is better than some things you could be drinking. Link to comment
gracerules2008
I wouldn't worry too much about it if I were you. I bought a 3 liter bottle of RC cola yesterday and drank it all in one day. I typically drink about 2 cans of 12 ounce sodas everyday at work. It makes me more productive at my job. I've been a regular soda drinker since I was 17. Link to comment
jengh
Hey, pop is better than some things you could be drinking. lol, not a whole lot of things worse to drink than pop! Link to comment
gracerules2008
I think most of my weight gain comes from soft drinks. I'd probably lose all the fat on my tummy quickly if I cut out all soda. I hardly accumulate fat anywhere else on my body. I look like I'm pregnant. Link to comment

greensleeves
Oh god, I can relate. I'm addicted to Diet Coke to the point that I'll drive out late at night to make sure I always have at least two or three cans in the house...and it has to be a can, not bottled. I also drink it first thing in the morning It's bad. Some days I drink 7 or 8 cans. I'm trying to quit as a New Year's resolution, so I allowed myself four cans a day for the first week, now I'm at three cans a day, so if I'm successful it will take a month and I shouldn't go through any caffeine withdrawal. It might work for you and the idea above of replacing it with carbonated water or club soda with lemon or lime really helps. I want to stop because I'm afraid of the aspartame, but for the types that you're drinking there are several teaspoons of sugar in each can, so maybe use that and the possibility of it contributing to diabetes as an incentive to quit. Good luck!! Link to comment
dreamwarrior
Yipes, so much sugar, so many calories, and hard on your body to digest. I never touch the stuff, but I do love my one cup of coffee (with no sugar) in the morning and the rest of the day pure squeezed juices. Are you trying to cut back? or afraid your drinking to many sodas? Be very careful because that will eat up your teeth. Best to ya! Link to comment

jengh
oh man, seriously!!!! Diet Coke is my nemesis. I drink 1 or 2 2L bottles a DAY. Link to comment
COtuner
I cut out soda 5 years ago. I was drinking 2-3 16 oz Mountain Dews a day (the orange and red kind) to fuel my energy since I was working 20 hour days. I switched to coffee to keep the caffeine buzz (mochas) then cut to regular coffee, then to green tea, then decaf tea. Took about a year but it worked. Can honestly say I have had no soda at all since then. I do like the sparking water with fruit essense in it, but the belching and bloated tummy I get afterwards ain't worth it Link to comment
Binoo
I know what you're going through. Pop is my vice. However, I went down from like 1-3 cans a day to maybe once every week or two. Whenever I feel thirsty I make sure I have a glass of water first. That helps quence my thirst and the pop doesn't seem so necessary anymore. It's a really difficult thing to change your diet but just do it one step at a time. I don't really crave soda nearly as much as I used to. Link to comment
greywolf
I know someone that lost 5 lbs when she switched from soda to water. Link to comment

I'd try to wean yourself off it gradually. Try drinking a little less each day. Sodas are not good for your health in general especially not to mention the damage they do to your teeth. thejigsup
My bf used to be a Pepsi junkie. Now he has diabetes. Doc said they were probably related. I don't drink much soda or eat many sweets and my blood sugar levels are fairly low (I'm hypoglycemic). I have to carbo load to keep conscious. Try to quit the sodas cold turkey, it's the only way to quit anything, and substitute them with flavored waters, then straight bottled water. You will feel so much better! Link to comment
beejcee
would you consider trying to find a type of ice tea that tastes good? there are all kinds and brands -- with sugar and without. my fav is the black ice tea at starbucks with no syrup. tea you brew yourself has all kinds of good stuff in it that fights cancer. just a thought.
