CoCo2009
I started to run and I have been asking my boyfriend to go with me because I thought it would be safer. I live in a normal neighbor hood but I'm afraid of dogs etc. Well he doesn't want to go most of the time and I just want to go alone. Should I just go alone and see what happens. I hate depending on him, he's kinda lazy. Link to comment
_Asti_
Why not? I've never ran with anyone. To me, jogging and running is my nightly escape, my alone time, time to be with myself. I wouldn't depend on someone else for exercising. Link to comment
CoCo2009
thanks for the advice, I guess I'm just paranoid about all the creepsters out in the world. I go in the daytime because of that reason. Link to comment
Mythical_Suicide
If you aren't comfortable running in your neighborhood do you have a park with some sort of walking/running trail that you can run at instead? That's what I do because I don't have anywhere to really run in my neighborhood so I go to our local park. Link to comment

alli
I used to run outside at night by myself all the time. My town was also reasonably safe. I tried to stay on roads that had more traffic. There was one stretch of road that had a lot of traffic & very few intersections on one side so I ran on that sidewalk a lot. There was one big dark hill surrounded by vegetation that I freaked myself out running on. It was on my way back to my house; I didn't even think about it until I was halfway up it so I had to just finish. Nothing weird happened even though I kept watching off to the side, afraid someone was going to jump out of the bushes! After that I always took the other route home. If you do run in the evening when it starts to get dark you should wear a reflective belt. Other than that you should be fine. Link to comment
LAYAAN
I always go alone with my iPod. I listen to Joyce Meyer's free podcasts that time. Its truly an enriching experience. Sometime you need to be with yourself. Go alone, by all means, just be safe. Have fun! Link to comment

COtuner
Better not to use headphones if running alone at times when not many people are out and about. Always make sure someone knows where you are going, too. Women do get snatched even in good neighborhoods. Not trying to scare you or anything, just practice good common sense. Link to comment
COtuner
or a track at a local High School? That's what I used to do. Switched to popular trails after that so that so that I felt confident that someone was always nearby, but I still had the feeling of going through the woods and stuff. Link to comment
jengh
I used to run alone all the time... The only place that would freak me out a bit was by the ski resort, if I went around 4:30 (closing time) and all of the guys were driving back from boarding. I can't tell you how many cars full of guys stopped and asked if I wanted a ride (dude, I'm jogging...) Link to comment
