PsychGirly
So my gyno gave me 3 samples of NuvaRing to try out. She told me to start it on the Sunday after I get my period (even if I'm still on my period). She kind of rushed me out of there so I realized I had a lot of questions after I had left the office. So my next period is due on Friday the 16th. *Do I insert the ring on Sunday the 18th? *Would my period stop, or continue for a few more days until the hormones kicked in? *Would I remove the ring 3 weeks from the 18th? *How long would it take to get my period after removing the ring? *When would I insert the ring again? I'm kind of clueless...any help is greatly appreciated. I'm gonna email my gyno, but she takes a while to respond, so I thought I'd try asking here first. Link to comment
GoldenHillGuy
*Do I insert the ring on Sunday the 18th? I dunno. I thought you waited until it was over. 4 days for my ex. *Would my period stop, or continue for a few more days until the hormones kicked in? My ex's stopped usually the next day *Would I remove the ring 3 weeks from the 18th? Remove whenever your cycle is. The point is to keep your cycle as regular as possible. *How long would it take to get my period after removing the ring? My ex was the next day. *When would I insert the ring again? When your period is done. I'm kind of clueless...any help is greatly appreciated. I'm gonna email my gyno, but she takes a while to respond, so I thought I'd try asking here first. The ring sucks. My ex was MESSED up hormonally for 8 months after she stoppped using it. She didn't have periods for 6 of those 8 months, and irregular ones 4 months after that. Her hormone levels were so screwed up, the docs thought she had PCOS. She was growing more body hair, etc. Weight gain. NO SEX drive. It ultimately had a part in undoing our relationship. Good luck. It is convenient though! Sorry, I'm not a girl. Link to comment

alli
They want you to start the sunday after your period, but not for biological reasons or anything. You could start it on a thursday, the hormones can't tell what day of the week it is. It might be a good idea for you to start it on the day that your period is gone or nearly gone, because I'm not sure if you can use tampons & the ring in at the same time. Don't quote me on this, but you change it out on the same day every week for 3 weeks. Lets say you change it on a Tuesday. After using 3 rings, you take the old one out on Tuesday like normal but you do not put one in for another 7 days, until the following Tuesday. That is when you have your period. It's up to your body to decide when your period will start during that time, but it's probably comparable to the pill, ie 2-4 days. After that week of not having the ring in, you start start & put the first one in the next Tuesday. So basically the week of not having the ring in is like the week of taking the green placebo pills when you're on the pill. so it's like this: (ring one) T-W-R-F-S-S-M- (ring two) T-W-R-F-S-S-M- (ring 3)T-W-R-F-S-S-M-(take ring out, have period)T-W-R-F-S-S-M- (repeat at ring one) Link to comment
Brittney2008
I use the nuva ring and i like it just fine. I used to be on depo my my doctor said If I was trying to lose weight nuva ring would be better for me than depo. 1 ring lasts one month. If you put the nuva ring say for instance this sunday the 11th, you would take it out Feb 1st, leave it out for one week and reinsert a *new one on feb 8th. My gyno told me to insert it for the first time near the end of my period, after that strictly follow the in for 3 weeks out for 1 week method. Link to comment
redrose85
I was on it for about 9 months, but the hormones messed with me. The experience is different for everyone though. We all have different tolerances and intolerances. It was incredibly convenient, couldn't feel it, etc... If the hormone balance was different, I would go back on it. Link to comment

I was thinking you put a new one in each week but I'm sure you're right as I've never used it!. Link to comment

I havent experienced much of a hormonal side effect but sometimes during sex my partner can feel it and it bothers him and sometimes when hes thrusting it moves the ring and it kinda hurts but other than that its ok. You can take the ring out for three hours at a time so if it bothers me during sex thats what i do. They say if its out for more than three hours you need to use condoms for back up for a week and stuff like that. Link to comment
