chaosa
If you are familiar with my last post, I have many many emotional issues that I have decided to confront head-on. One of the steps I am taking is starting therapy this week. Another step is to go off my anti-depressants because I want to heal the natural way and not be dependant on pills that don't really help for the rest of my life. I stopped the Wel-butrin cold turkey, that was easy. Now I am off the Effexor that I gradually weaned myself off of. The withdrawal symptoms are making me sick today. I have these "body tremors" and what they are is like little electric shocks going through my system. They are the worst today than they ever have been. Every time I move even the slightest bit, I get the tremors and they make me nauseous. Hopefully soon these things will be gone, but for now they are horrid. Guess I just had to vent, thanks for reading. Link to comment
TBE_1989
Ehm, I'm no health expert, nor have I ever been on medication for depression or anxiety, but I'm pretty sure it's a disastrous idea to stop any medication - particularly that which deals with mental health - cold turkey, without discussing it with a professional. chaosa
I did discuss it, the wellbutrin had no side-effects from stopping, the effexor however does and that's why I gradually went off them as my doctor suggested. There's just no possible way to eliminate the side-effects completely. Link to comment

I second this as I also did the same thing a few years back and found myself in a pyshc ward because I had a nervous breakdown from stopping the meds cold turkey. I would never recommend nor suggest anyone do the same. Only a professional can wean you off properly as they know more or less how your body should/could react to the lower doses. Link to comment
chaosa
Refer to above post...I'm not a stupid person, I knew full well I would have a stroke or end up in the hospital if I didn't quit the right way. Link to comment
chaosa
Day three completely off the meds, these shocks aren't getting any better. I called my doc and she said it was normal. I quite possibly have a couple more weeks of this Link to comment
Reinhard
I'm glad you weaned off the Effexor properly. I too made the decision to seek an alternative to pills. That was about 5 years ago and I don't regret it in any way. What I didn't do, until recently, was face the issues that underlie the depression. I'm really glad to see your decision to do that as well. Write soon. Hope it gets better sooner. Link to comment

I have been off the meds for 8 days now and my withdrawals have all but stopped. I get a brain shiver every now and then, but nothing I can't handle. My mind already feels much less muddled and I feel I can start to work through my issues more effectively. Link to comment
rbr85
I don't know about effexor, but I had withdrawals the first time I came off wellbutrin. I smoked marijuana the first week after stopping wellbutrin, and it almost completely diminished the withdrawal symptoms. Then I phased out the pot smoking, back to moderate use and felt fine.
