Phaser
So I ended up joining POF and I message some woman. Anyway we've message a couple times back and forth and I thought well I hate this short message crap so I asked her for her msn. She replies that she doesn't have one. My initial thoughts is it is a bit strange since 'most' people at least have msn nowadays, at least you would think so. Now I guess the problem was my initial thinking was chat on msn a few times and see how it goes and then suggest a meet up but now with no msn I will probably have to continue messaging her which is a bit silly since the messages aren't overly long. Anyway what advice can people bestow onto me, I guess I don't really have a question which is a bit silly :S Link to comment
Phaser
Haha I was about to edit my post to include my thoughts about phone number which was going to be that I would feel a bit awkward. I guess if things go well after she replies to the message I sent her I may just have to do that. Oh yeah if it matters I'm 20 and she's 23. Link to comment
ramsickle1369
Naw, just get her number. I find that on dating sites people tend to waste tons of time messaging back and forth. It's completely unintimate and you never really get to know the person. It's scary to give a phone number (to me anyway) because suddenly it's a REAL person. All this online crap is simply so vague. Give her your phone number and see what happens. Link to comment

Caldus
Um, just so you know, MSN is NOT the primary form of contact these days. AIM is more prevalent than MSN. So I can believe why she does not have MSN. You need to get something that has all 3 -> AIM, MSN, and Yahoo. Or at least something that supports more than that, because different people have different things. Link to comment
jengh
I use AIM and Yahoo. I haven't used MSN since middle school. Ask if she has others. Link to comment
ramsickle1369
Ha... I have about 5 messenger programs. But that's me. And doesn't POF have it's own? Link to comment
Phaser
Oh I don't know about USA (well based on what you've said seems like AIM) but I believe in Australia MSN is the prevalent form of IMing Link to comment
COtuner
Maybe she simply would prefer conversation to typing in realtime Link to comment

hers
i've deleted all of my chatting devices. I hate talking on IM. The way I do onlin dating is I do a few messages, and if they are good, then I'll suggest meeting if they haven't yet (I don't like talking on the phone to strangers, either). I'd rather talk about things in person than on IM. Link to comment
Raistlin
I am a weird kind of guy. I LOVE technology, but I hate e-mail and IM. I don't mind forums so much... go figure. Anyhow, I refuse to use IM programs anymore, and I ask for/give out my number instead of e-mail. Link to comment
Batya33
I always refused to IM with someone I originally contacted through a dating site before we met in person. I have AIM and Yahoo but not MSN. Link to comment
JeckyllNHyde
Hmm well for me, if I don't want to give out my email adress so soon I lie and say I have no MSN. If I where doing the online dating thing, I'd much rather establish some sort of rapport thru short messeges with the person and be more the slightly interested before allowing him to be able to contact me more thru Msn or emails. Phaser
Wow is all I can say cause today I got woken up by my phone with a 'premium' sms saying Hi my name, its her name from Site. Blah blah blah to chat reply yes costs lots of money to send and receive messages. So I got duped. Dang. Link to comment
