Raistlin
Something I've noticed since April when my first relationship ended is that I am having a very, very hard time remembering much of anything anymore. I can't remember what things or places are called, names, dates, appointments, obligations... I just draw a huge blank. As I search my mind, it feels like there is a huge fog enveloping my mind that shrouds me from most memories... including mundane things. I've noticed that I'm having a hard time maintaining a normal sleep schedule, I don't eat regularly, and it feels as if my motor skills are slipping. (Typing this, I've made about 20 errors already whereas before, I wouldn't make 1 or 2). Its gotten so severe that most of the time I can't identify my own feelings. I just feel like a big ball of... blah. I don't know if this post/question even makes sense, but are there any foods/drink/techniques I can try to increase my short-term memory? Or get rid of this "pseudo-fog" that's rolling around in my mind? Link to comment
sarey
I'm so like this. I have ADHD which makes it all so much more worse. Maybe eat more healthier, what's your diet like? Try exercising your brain, do you have a DS? They have brain training games. They may help. Ummm, I'm all outta ideas. Ha. Um, you could google it? How to improve short term memory? Link to comment
Lionel Hutz
Fish can help your memory, as well as gink baloba (spelling). Memorizing songs helps alot too. Sing your favorite tunes more often when youre alone. Link to comment

My diet is very sporadic, but I don't eat well. I don't have a DS... gave it to my ex. I play plenty of games, but nothing that really "challenges" like a brain training game. Link to comment

I ALWAYS have a song stuck in my head. Even while sleeping. It's kinda creepy. Link to comment

Perfect example of what could be flubbing up your short term. Kick that tune out and memorize lyrics of a song you hardly know. The brain is a muscle too. Link to comment

Play puzzles often, try and exercise your brain, because as said above, it is a muscle too. Link to comment
Kalika
Honestly, to me it sounds like you are going through depression. Depression can affect appetite, memory, sleep (either by increasing or decreasing it) and many other functions. You said this started happening shortly after a breakup so it kind of makes sense. Exercising may help - it's a natural way to boost yourself. Try going for a brisk walk once or twice a day and see if that improves things a little. I am having the exact same problem right now and I have found that exercising helps, even if it IS very hard to motivate myself to do it.. Link to comment

JeckyllNHyde
i was going to say something similar to Kalika. not that you're depressed. but ever since the break up maybe you where reallly really down and just going thru the motions for those months. so you didnt really even bother paying much attention to the details or even remembering them. could also be that you where only focussed on the pain and heartache, and moving past it. or you kept repeating memories of your ex in your mind leaving little room to focus on the present? also, try the fish etc for memory help.
