When This happens

"If they could, they would want you too"?

I'm not sure that I understand that. Do you mean that you're lusting after someone who is taken by another?

Otherwise, unrequited love is the stuff of so much fiction. Everyone has experienced it, no one cares for it all that much, and there's no grand solution that's ever existed. One thing is for sure though, most people absolutely suck at winning someone's affection once they've convinced themselves that they either 1) aren't good enough, 2) that it wasn't meant to be, or 3) that they have to jump through a million hoops to make it all happen.

What makes you think this person wants you back?

When you want someone and you know you can't have them. What do you do? I know what should be done, but what do you do when you want them and you know it's wrong but you just don't care. You know that if they could they would want you to. How do you deal with it?

I avoid them like the plague. That is pretty much how I deal when I can't have someone that I really, really want. I cut them out of my life if at all possible.

We text each other. She has her reasons why she can't be with me and I have mine. She is on one side of the country and me the other but we met online and have become very close but for now it's the only way we can be together.

Ditto.

I see absolutely no point, in yearning for something that can never be yours.

Soon as I know they are out of bounds, I'd move on and forget.

Actually I don't think I've ever been in a situation where I have longed for someone...I exit before it's gone that far.

I knew a guy in this situation. He chatted to a female and developed really strong feelings for her, even though she told him that she could never ever meet him...

And he still continued to chat to her.

Waste of time IMO....but whatever floats peoples boats I guess..

Hmmm....honestly, I think you should lose her number and force yourself to do other things with the time you would spend texting her. Tell her to look you up if the things that currently stand in your way are no longer obstacles. You could be spending this time making new friends, developing new interests, going to seminars that will help you with your career...all the stuff you already do with your free time, just try to do more of it to distract yourself. After a while hopefully you will lose the urge to contact her.
