Bartok
"Oh wow, you're tall!" It happens all the time. I'm 6'5", I get it quite a bit from both sexes. I mean... it happens SO MUCH, it could be a perfect time to, say, have a witty retort ready so I can get a conversation going. Unfortunately, I'm not that quick in conversations with people I don't know, so usually I just stare, mouth agape, trying to think of something to say. Many of you know how it goes, you get tongue tied, either say nothing at all or say something stupid. It usually doesn't go too well. Hopefully, you all can help me with this. I don't know how many of you have this little "problem", but if you do, how do you handle people constantly commenting on how tall you are? If you aren't too terribly tall, how do you think you'd respond? Link to comment

JadedStar
Well it is only a problem if you view it as such. I would take it as a compliment because i am sure that is how it was meant. The times in my life i said that to a guy it was not an insult...i was in awe of their height! LOL And i always meant it complimentary. Otherwise i would not have bothered to say it outloud!@ A good response? How about........thank you? LOL Link to comment
MyheartorHis
Well, I'm really short so it's the opposite but I get "WOW! You're so small!" constantly. I always reply "Hey, you're so tall!" or something jokingly like "Do you have a problem with short people?" haha. I just try to make the best out of it. There are a ton of things to say around that subject, just go what first pops into your head! Link to comment
Pappers
I'm also very tall - 6ft, then with heels I'm a lot taller so you get the picture. Best thing I say is this: "I'm worth the climb" Good luck and don't feel shy about your height - it's a wonderful asset (only exception is regarding clothes) Link to comment
Bartok
"I'm worth the climb" I like that one! And I'm not ashamed/shy of my height. I do take it as a compliment, but "thank you" has become boring. After hearing "you're tall" for years upon years, you try to think of something creative to say - but I never think about it until I'm already put on the spot, which puts me in a bind. A post in a different forum about attracting people when you're short is what reminded me of this, actually. Link to comment
definitely_maybe
"wow, thanks. ...and I'm not even wearing my high heels." notes: Make sure they realize you are kidding. Link to comment
monkey123
being tall is a gift in every way possable, take it as a complement. Just seek conversation with everyone, male, female, adult, child, attractive, not attractive, and your social skills will greatly increase in every aspect. So next time you can say something clever and hit it off. Link to comment
hmdreamer7
I agree with just saying 'thanks,' usually ppl mean it in a complimentary way. If you're looking for something witty...? How about, "I get a good view from up here!" or if you're religious you could say "I'm closer to God this way." Or if you're getting annoyed you could say "Don't worry, just as soon as you hit puberty, you'll start to grow, too." Link to comment
julioiglesia
if you like what you see, tell her what she is doing now and offer her coffee to tell her how you got so tall. if she says no. no big deal at least you tried. Link to comment

If you aren't too terribly tall, how do you think you'd respond? Lol I'm 6'5" myself. Whenever someone asks me how tall I am I usually respond with something like 5'9" and see how long I can get them to believe me. Normally they'll be something like "Really? my dad is 6'3" and you look taller than him" or "I thought I was 5'5" and you look a lot taller than me" Just play along with it then bash them for actually believing you. It'll be funny and get conversation going. Link to comment
CerysJane
you're not alone! i'm 5ft and 19 - I get the opposite pretty much all the time; it seems I can't meet anyone new without 'wow your tiny!' being popped into the conversation. I used to find it so patronising and found it hard to carry on the conversation, but now I chirp back something like - good things come in little packages! which usually draws a giggle and in most situations helps the conversation Link to comment
Buttterfly
i'm 5.11 and I too get that a lot, usually people mean it ina good way but occasionally there are some who would actually say it pretty much everytime they see me lol in which case I retort a 'whoaa, look how little you are' and i get a (sincere?)giggle. love wearing high heels as well!
