Okay enough about those arrogant cats. I want to hear from dog owners/lovers here. List your dog(s) names and breeds and how old they are.

Me first. His name is Duke after John Wayne and is 3 yrs old. He is pure bread Australian Shepherd with on blue eye and on brown with a little blue in it. His favorite toy is his Frisbee. He is an outside dog and runs free on an acre of land. He gets put in a kennel at night to protect him from Coyotes, Raccoons and skunks. Well the skunk part is mostly for me since he stinks like hell when he gets sprayed.

The big dog is Marco. I found him about 11 or 12 years ago as a young puppy. He had been badly abused and neglected. He was terrified of men for a long time. I was only going to keep him for a few days, here we are years later. LOL

He loves to play ball. Will fetch a tennis ball for hours even though his hips are not in the greatest shape.

The puppy pics are of a puppy that I recently found running around my apartment complex. She's a doll.

Anybody know why they call it "the dog days of summer"? I wish it were the dog days of summer here! So here is a dog story....my dog (a black lab) can't poo on the snowy sidewalk...he has to climb up to the mounds of snow covering the grass and walk back and forth several million times to clear a path before he squats and dumps. Yesterday it was minus 30 celsius with the windchill. My dog finally does his business and then I have to pull off my gloves to pick up the poo. My hands are frozen and I can't manipulate the bag so easily. Poo pieces have also fallen into snow crevices so it is not so easy to pick up. The easiest way is to use two hands and just scoop up snow and poo at the same time. I was using one hand and wasn't having much luck. Then the fringe of my scarf touched the poo (I was not happy). Then the wind blew and the bag flew minus the poo! I had to start all over again. Finally picked it all up, my hands are so cold they are at the pain level. I can't see a thing because my glasses are steamed up. My dog meets another dog and wants to play. I just want to stick my hands in a tub of hot water! Then we get to the garbage pail and I throw out the poo...now he wants to jump all over me and play...while crossing an intersection! Yep, lots of fun!

he is 5, he likes to play with the football and carry it around and fling it accross the room.he loves the snow. he can play in the snow for hours...best dog ive ever had

oh yeah and my dad loves this dog because the dog refuses to take a dump in the yard..he will go in the woods and take a dump, i dont think he has ever gone pee or poop in the yard or house....

oh yeah and he is also a rescuse dog,he came to the hospital at 2 weeks old because someone left the dogs on the animal hospital front porch. I ended up taking him home every night for 2 months and for my b day the hospital gave him to me as a present.

The Romans saw that the hottest days of the summer coincided with the rise of Sirius, the Dog Star. They assumed it meant that the star was making the summer hotter, so that`s where the dog days of summer comes from. Arf!

I read too much. And kick butt on Jeopardy!

As if people dont know enough about my dog Leeluu....

I will write about her anyway anyway! (And then after I am going to let her run around outside b/c it's nice out and she's pouting).

Leeluu is a 6-year-old white boxer with a brown patch over her eye (yes, like Petey). When i got her as a puppy, her nose was pink. It turned black over the years, but I miss the pink nose b/c she looked so innocent with it. Now she's getting whtie streaks in her brown patch, the only part of her body with color, and it's a sign to me that she's aging. She's still acting like a puppy though.

Last night I got home to find garbage accross teh kitchen floor. She was hiding in the bathroom, wagging her tail nervously, ears back as far as they go, cowering close to the floor. I don't know why she gets so scared--I never punish her. I did when she was a puppy for doing that, when I had no patience and I was naive about how to take care of a dog (dogs DONT come knowing not to get in the garbage?). She never gets in the garbage anymore, so I know it was a behavioural stab at me. I ended up telling her I'd rather pick up garbage than not have her at all. And when I gave her a hug, she peed a little. My girl is growing up. she's the love of my life.

Here's a picture of her frolicking in the park (taken just a couple weeks ago). She's like a gazelle.

Another "Dog Day" Tuesday! This morning I was out with the dog. It was very windy and on my street there was a black balloon that was getting tossed around the air and back and forth accross the street because of the wind. My dog was mesmerized by the sight of this black baloon bouncing and flying all over the place. At times he tried to go after it but the wind swept it up out of reach. It was really amusing to watch.

I've already posted pics of our three, but who cares! I've mentioned that when growing up, I was a "cat" person and hated dogs, especially Chihuahuas. But after dog-sitting my g/f's Chi "Trixie" when she was gone on business when we first started dating, I was hooked. Chis are small, but they have the personality of a 120lb dog, and are incredibly intelligent.

So here are our three:

Trixie - My girlfriend rescued her from the local animal shelter 3 years ago, and she is now just over 5-years old. She was abused, scared and aggressive, and was in quarantine for biting a Vet tech. Trixie's past owners were trying to breed her but she was bred twice, once by a much larger dog so she actually had TWO litters of puppies in her womb. All the puppies were still born, and they had to operate on Trixie to remove them. She died on the operating table, but they brought her back to life, despite a heart murmur. The Shelter staff called her "The Miracle Dog." Trixie still has some aggression issues with strangers (especially men), but she is getting better. Once she knows and trusts you, she is the most loving, loyal little girl. She is 10lbs.

Sasha - We got Sasha as "my" dog about two-years ago, when she was 8-months old. We (embarrassingly) purchased her from a local breeder who was supposed to be reputable. It turned out the "breeder" was hoarding and had over 800-Chihuahuas on their ranch. It made national news! After knowing this, we realized that Sasha had major food issues, her back legs were stunted slightly, and she was not socialized at all. She is very healthy now, though we have to carefully watch her food intake, or she will eat everything in sight. She still is VERY shy of strangers and takes a while to warm up to people. We have to keep her busy with chewie bones or her anxiety gets the bets of her and she chews furniture, carpet, electrical cords, etc. But she is very playful and loving. She is 8lbs.

Rufus - In May of this year, my g/f and I wandered down to the local shelter and fell in love with this little guy the instant we saw him. We adopted him on the spot! We found out that he also was a victim of the same 800-Chihuahua hoarding case where Sasha came from. Though Rufus was only weeks old when he was rescued. He was put in a loving foster-home who treated him wonderfully, and we adopted him when he was 7-months old. He had a small "bite" out of one ear and a severe ear infection but other than that... he was in good shape. He is incredibly intelligent, vocal, spirited, and quite the acrobat. He is now taller than Trixie, but incredibly lanky, clumsy and all legs. 7lbs.

That's a cute picture. You can tell by the look in his eyes he's not being aggressive.
