ghost69
do people really not know their SO enough? i just keep seeing these threads pop up that ask us that. just seems a little bit odd. especially by people that have been with their SO for over 4-5 months. you should know what they like. at least give us a hint as to what they are into. not just the question: what should i get my bf/gf? huh? come on seriously. hockeyboy
Agreed. if some random person from ENA can pick a better gift for the person you are dating then yourself...I'd be concerned. I had no problems picking out gifts, my only problem was going to the mall. Man do I hate the mall. Link to comment
ImThatGirl
You guys are funny. I never thought of that.... Some people have a hard time buying gifts. I had a handful of people to buy for that have been in our lives for 8+ years... that I had more than one panic thought of "OMG what should we get for them!" Link to comment
lady00
Well, no, it's not obvious or straightforward for everyone. I am one of those who is clueless. Have known him for years, have dated him for a few months so far and I still had no idea what to get. So, it's not that easy for everyone even if you do know the person well. I still have a hard time finding stuff for family members whom I've known way longer. Good for you that it's so easy when shopping for an SO. Everyone's different. Link to comment

I don't even know what type of stuff my bf is into that would relate to gift-giving. I guess that makes me sound crazy but eh, I just don't. We don't really discuss anything like sports and he doesn't have any obvious hobbies that I could have gotten him a gift for. Link to comment
Mythical_Suicide
but you could at least include, 'he's really into baseball.' not just the question, 'he's a guy...what do i get?' Yea those are the ones that bother me.. "We've been dating for 4 years, what should I get him for Christmas" and then the responses to "what is he into" type questions is usually "I don't know" That is a lot different than posting and asking this per-sey "We've been dating for 4 years, He's really into video games or basketball and has nearly everything known to man, men any ideas what I should get" Link to comment

lady00
how do you not know? I just don't. Just putting another perspective out there. No need to be all incredulous about it. Link to comment
ImThatGirl
Maybe it has more to do with fear of getting the wrong thing. We all want the gift to be so perfect and for the receiver to really be excited to get it. Link to comment
hockeyboy
I just don't. Just putting another perspective out there. No need to be all incredulous about it. Just to be clear, you don't know what kind of things he is into? His hobbies? What he does with his free time? Or do you know and just can't think of a gift to associate with any of them? If that's the case, what are some examples of his hobbies/free time activities? Link to comment

Or do you know and just can't think of a gift to associate with any of them? If that's the case, what are some examples of his hobbies/free time activities? Well, the first set of things my mind goes to: I do know that he is not into sports and does not play any sports (except maybe soccer, but he's not a huge fan of that, just watches very casually and he does play it on occasion), he wouldn't go to a play/musical show, he does not collect anything, he is not into video games at all, he does not watch television, not sure what his tastes are in music or movies. I know more about what he does not like than what he does like. Link to comment

lady00
what does he do with all of this time? sleep? No. He is a student. He studies. He goes out to parties, bars, clubs. He plays soccer. He spends most of his free time hanging out with friends and coming up with new business ideas. Link to comment

Why is everyone so hyper critical over this? Yes, I have an idea genre of music he prefers as in what genre, but it's really general and I don't know what other types he might like. I don't know what specific artists he likes. I don't listen to music with him when I'm with him and we don't spend time talking about his tastes in music. He does not know my tastes in music either. ImThatGirl
Lady - Just wanna say I can relate. As I said before, I've stressed about what to get my sons family.... stressed about what to get my family, my kids, etc. etc. etc. Some people have a more difficult time with this. What do the two of you do together? What kind of activities? Link to comment

Well, to answer your specific Q, he has an MP3 player. Anyway, I decided to get him something cooking related. I noticed that he does not have enough of that stuff. He told me he didn't want me to spend much money on him as he is not into gifts or gift-giving. Link to comment
