glegend
This past weekend I suffered from the stomache flu. Everything hurt. My lower back still hurts. Which is making me think I might a lower back problem, but today it feels much better. What I was thinking if this is a real problem I have then auto mechanics isn't a good job for me, and was thinking on applying to design school. However, things aren't going that well with my current job (they are cutting hours already) and was thinking if I go to school for design and work on cars part time, will it work out? Or maybe do some light carpentry work while going to school? Is it a good idea or do I just have my head stuck in the clouds? Also, would you guys take one serious if he was going to school while working a trade? I kinda know it works cause there is this guy in my class who is a licensed mechanic, has his own company and comes to school, and just works in the evenings and weekends. Link to comment
Sn0man
What works better is going to work during the day and taking evening and weekend classes. There are lots of colleges that offer night courses for working people. I worked all the way through college. Day classes and a day job. It was hella tough, but I did it - i'm sure you could too. Try alternating days as an alternative - 3 days schooling, 2 working, if you can get your boss to accommodate something like that (you said things were slowing down?) Link to comment
thejigsup
Yeah, I work during the day and go to school on Mondays all day. I've been doing some form of this for years. If you believe in yourself and have the drive to do what you dream of, you can do most anything. BUT..it will get mega tough at times so don't start this unless you dedicated to seeing it through to the bitter end. Link to comment

Evening classes is what I thought about at first. However, if I were to do night classes then it would take me a really long time to say graduate. The program is a 3 year program and then I have to do another 3 year apprentice type thing before I become licensed. I'm kinda thinking to do what you suggested 3 days school, 2 days work at least something like that. Say I go to school for example Mon-Fri from 8-12 then I could work after I finish school. Or if I have a late class on Mondays say 4pm I can work until 3ish and then go to school. I'm quitting my current job by April. Things are slowing down big time and I dont know why, since the store is making a crap load of money, last Tuesday the store made 100G's. Once I'm a licensed mechanic I plan to quit, maybe I might keep this job for the weekend only and if I go back to school and working auto mechanics or even carpentry doesnt work out then at least still have a job. glegend
Go to school and study to become an Accountant. I don't really like those kind of office jobs. Plus, my dad used to be an accountant and he got bored of the job and that why he stopped doing accounting and work renovations full time. He used to do renovations after his accounting job and on the weekends. Link to comment

Do you want to be a 25 year old call center operator or a 25 year old accountant with his own office ? Link to comment

I'd rather be a 25 year old accountant with my own account firm opposed to working a 9-5 minimum wage job. BUT theres the other thing, I don't have G12 math. I know I keep saying I'm going to go for it but I don't end up going. Maybe I do night school in January and get my G12 math, hours are going to be cut enough as it is so that wont be a problem with work. My school schedule will permit it. Another thing is I also want to be doing something I like and enjoy doing rather then something that I find to be just alright. Link to comment

What are you doing at 18 years of age working in a retail store ? Let you parents look after you. Finish your education. I find it ridiculous that you mother is in school while you are not. Talk to your parents and tell them what you want to do. Tell them that they are failing you. You need to get an education. Stop fooling around. Get that education certificate and go to college. Take it from me. Get an Accounting or other practical degree. You will be much better off. Link to comment

I don't know, its the only job that came up. My mom is not in school anymore, shes been done school since July and doesnt work. I'm one semester away from graduating college, I'm supposed to be happy and excited but I partially excited. One of my co-workers told me to go for it after I graduate. My other coworker told me the same thing tonight. So I don't know. Link to comment

If only it was that easy for some people Tell them that they are failing you. They are not failing him, he is an adult! You can't always have everything handed to you in life just because it's "easier"... If it worked that way for you then great but not everyone is as "lucky" Link to comment
glegend
Realistically, they failed on me. Its the truth. When I needed them to be there for me because of problems with some of teacher back in high school, they weren't there for me. They didn't believe me. When I needed my dad to help me out with my Calculus work, he wasn't there and when he was he didn't really want to help me. When I was having life problems and needed them, they weren't there for me. And when they were they didnt believe me. Link to comment

That wasn't what CP was getting at, he was saying they are failing you now because you are 18 and working. While it's not right how they failed you while you were growing up, that wasn't the question at hand. Link to comment

They aren't failing you because you are having to work and go to school as well. Not trying to be rude but you're an adult now. Life isn't always going to be easy and you can't always blame your parents failing you. Link to comment
CaptainPlanet
I think it really is that simple to be honest. Get into school and start being pro-active about what you want to do. Instead of complaining and doing nothing. Get hold of a small accounting firm and tell them what you want to do. Link to comment
