Ever Wish?

With all the drama in the world today does anyone ever wish they could just go back and live life like it was in the 50's or 60's even the 70's? Before internet, cell phones before there was so much crap in the world today. I know I feel life would have been better if we had stayed there. Kids were safer, relationships lasted no where near the amount of divorce as today. I am so tired of drama that I can't even watch tv anymore becuase thats all I see every where I go. Anyone else feel the same way?

Yes, and I've made choices that reflect my desire to live in simpler times. You will find no tv's, gaming systems, or home theatres in my home. The internet is strictly regulated by time and approval of each website visited. Often we get creative in the kitchen, play music together, or go on outdoor adventures. Life is good, it's whatever you make of it.

60's and 70's were better because there were more opportunities for young people. If you were ambitious back then there is a good chance you could have already done very well by now. Though you are talking about almost 40-50 years ago which is basically another time period. To be 20 in 1960 means you are now almost in your 70's.

I'm not sure if the 50's would have been better.

I think what Tex is saying IS life was less complicated without all the techno BS.

yes that is what I meant. Not to really go back in time but to just have not gotten so needy for all the stuff we have today. More is not always better. And marriages meant more then too.

All the time buddy......all the time

Back in the day when hard work and honesty meant something.

lost

Right today everyone wants everything handed to them. No one wants to work at fixing anything. Just toss it aside and get a new one but that should apply to people and relationships. And thanks to the internet and cell phones it has become to much of a "me" society. No one cares about anyone else anymore. It's I need to hurry and get there or I need to be first in line.

no, i really don't. i don't think that times were simpler, i think people just think that they were. there was also still segregation in the 1950s, i have no desire to return to such times, nor the vietnam war (even though we are living through something similar now). i think there was less divorce because people couldn't afford to do so and it wasn't as socially acceptable, not because people were happier. I have no desire to live in times when women were second class citizens.

the 70s, maybe. but that was pretty self-centered too, i bet.

but the 50s ~ no way! repressed Stepford parents living in the 'burbs, mom stuck at home baking & dusting while dad goes to his boring job, secretly downing martinis to drown the futility of trying to keep up with the neighbors, stuck in dead marriages because divorce isn't socially acceptable, social stigma for doing anything outside of the norm. racism, sexism, segregation...

Are you kidding? We're living in much better times than we were 50 years ago. We've become more tolerant of diversity at least in western society. Racism, sexism, slavery, discrimination of gays & lesbians is NOT nearly as dominant as it was 50 years ago.

So I think we're living in better times and things will continue to get better. I don't see how they can get worse. Sure we have our setbacks. It will never be a perfect world but I'm generally optimistic about the future of humanity.

Humanity is evolving. These days people are actually free to marry for love and not for survival reasons like it was 50 years ago.

Most women still are second class citizens. Only they get the additional pressure of having to work to support a family. They are also treated as sex objects when they are young. Only a select group of women are liberated. They pretty much have the best of everything.

More or less the same as now. Only the wife leaves the man and takes all of his money. I prefer he old days.
