frequent bleeding

Recommended Posts

This may be TMI, but it's got me a bit concerned and confussed as this has never happened before.

So my periods are usually irregular. They are not the standard days apart every time. They are usually longer than 28 days apart, sometimes more than 36 days apart. When I do have them the bleeding only lasts anywhere from 4-5 days. and tend to be light-medium flow. There are times when it's a bit of a heavy flow for a day, but not usually longer.

That has never really been a big issue other than not knowing when they would come every month. They have NEVER been sooner than 28 days apart.

November I had a period, lasting 4 days of medium-heavy flow from November 8-12 with a bit of pre-period spotting on the 7th. I really didn't think anything about it, the period itself was a bit.....weird but nothing too bad.

Then on November 28-December 3 I had ANOTHER period. Again, it was like a normal period with medium-heavy flow. I thought it was strange to get another period 2 weeks after my previous period but I figured it was a fluke.

Well, on December 10 (last wednesday) I felt a bit of cramping and when I went to the restroom there was just a bit of blood in my underwear.

My first thought was that I was pregnant. So I did a pregnancy test, it came up as negetive almost immediately. I followed the instructions to the T, though I know those can be wrong sometimes as well.

But as the days followed I was bleeding way too much to be pregnant (I think). I went to bed the 11th and woke up Dec 12th morning and when I went to the bathroom the pad was completely filled with blood. That freaked me out because usually it's lighter at night for me and that was really really heavy!

What in the world is going on??

I know, go to a doctor, but my insurance is maxed out and it's way too expensive without insurance. Now if it happens again so soon I will go to a clinic or doc ASAP!

But I just wanted to see if anyone had ever experienced something like this?

Thanks!

Here's a short version of the times I had period:

November 8- November 12

November 28-December 3

December 10-Now

Is there a free clinic in your area that you can go to? I would make an appt asap just to be safe.

have there been any drastic changes in your diet or personal life? stress causes me to spot sometimes before my period. the changes in your hormones can cause your period to be irregular.

Not that I know of, but I'm sure there is. It's starting to taper off this time, so we decided if it happens again so soon then I'm going to have to find a way to see a doctor.

My only worry is that it isn't just spotting, they are like short heavy periods.

I'm not exactly sure what to think of them. There haven't really been any drastic changes in my life, and I've been a lot less stressed lately (well, before this started happening).

Do you live in the US? If so, call Planned Parenthood. They'll be able to get you in for free (or very low donation). Are you on any form of birth control? (Forgive me if I missed that if you mentioned it)

Yes I live in the US. I kinda wanted to hold off on going to a clinic or anything if I didn't have to (if it wasn't horribly serious).

No I'm not on birth control, I was going to be put on birth control, but my insurance maxed out and now I can't see the doctor until January.

No, it's not "horribly serious" but it's causing you worry and stress which is enough reason to see a doctor. Look up Planned Parenthood in your area and see what they suggest. They can get you on a birth control at little to no cost. Pretty much every single one of my friends do this. It's a great service that you should take advantage of. Don't think YOUR problem isn't worth a visit (It would drive me up the wall and I'd be making an appointment)

One thing to note - if you are iron deficient, your periods can come more frequently (mine did). Also, perimenopause can cause this and prolonged stress / anxiety.

Do you get a lot of iron in your diet? Red meat, spinach, nuts, etc?

When I am under a lot of stress I can have a period every 2 weeks, sometimes very heavy, sometimes kind of light. The past 2 years it seemed like I was either having a period or in PMS constantly. Pretty awful to live with!!

I am experiencing similar symptoms since the end of October this year. The weirdest symptom yet is that my period finally stopped but started again as soon as I started to take an iron supplement.

I really think you need to see a doctor because mine told me to keep coming in every few weeks to check for bacterial infection which can easily set in when bleeding more often or for longer periods if time.
