just M.E.
ryan, I did this job off and on for about 10+ years. you need .... Good organizational skills Great communication skills Good attention to detail I didn't do this as a graduate but I can tell you the skills needed doing the job varied by what discipline of construction management you were doing. All types need good skills with spreadsheets and/or management software to track progress and costs. You need detailed knowledge of all building codes and standards for the industry you are in. Skills / classes in all types of construction and techniques would be necessary, as most construction management overlaps from one area to another. Some projects I worked on divided the management between site work and infrastructure, actually building construction and final finish and certification. Colorado State University has a good construction management program and if you go online you can look at all required coursework for a degree. You need a good management style and many schools will push this in their course work. You are managing projects and people.
ryan123
i studied architecture and more so how houses and buildings are constructed for 4 years in high school. placed 4th in my state for architectural design. im very OCD about money and keeping track of it. im organized but not very good with being places where im supposed to, but when im there i have all my stuff. i pay attention to detail to the point where it could be a flaw. as for my communication skils...eh. they could be better. im not a social butterfly but i can talk if its something im into. with construction coming to a standstill how can i apply something like that towards the future? industrial design? i kind of want to build houses for the future. like homes in the water and in the sky. im very visual and creative and i want to harness that along with my strong attention to detail or organized nature to my benefit. what are those tests you take to see what careers would be best for you? im not sure what im doing is my calling. glegend
I know a college that offers that program near by my house, george brown college, and I know someone who takes the program. He found that year one wasn't that hard, until year two. But this person took all the easy courses in high school, mostly math, and he doesnt have the proper foundation for this course. He took Math for Construction when you really need something almost like Calculus.
