Doctor Smurf
Hi everyone! Background – around four years ago my mother collapsed randomly in a gym, spent several days in a coma, and subsequently made an almost full recovery, albeit with some loss of memory. There was never a diagnosis for how or why, but she has never quite been the same since. Over the last few years she’s become more and more reclusive, and only leaves the house when my father takes her out shopping, despite his best efforts. Both my parents are retired, and we live in a small holding so there’s no real “need” to go anywhere. A year ago my elder brother announced he had decided to join the Royal Air Force, a decision that didn’t meet any of us with particular favour. He’s closer than ever to leaving home to go on training, and along with other things my mother has become incredibly negative, depressed, and morbid. My father has always spoken to me about her, and said today that he can’t cope with it anymore on himself; he needs something to make it easier. When she was in hospital it was suggested she went on Beta Blockers, but she has always flat out refused medication, so we didn’t think that would help at all. She doesn’t seem to be mentally unwell at all, so we didn’t think seeing a psychiatrist would be appropriate either. In all, we have no idea what to do... any suggestions from you would be most welcome! Many thanks, Doc Smurf Link to comment
Seraphim
Well was there any brain damage associated with the spell??? It sounds an awful lot like she has some brain damage somewhere and it may have affected her personality. Has she had a CAT scan and MRI??? Link to comment
just M.E.
Has anyone considered early onset Alzheimer's? Before the real symptoms that are normally talked about, a personality change, being more reclusive, all the things you talk about your mother are symptoms. It's worth doing some research. If there is any chance of that, there are medications and life changes that help slow the progression. Link to comment
