barbielovesmac
he didn't walk side by side with you. yeah dude would walk ahead of me, like WAY ahead of me. like i said he'd open his door and dart off. Link to comment
JadedStar
anybody else do this? i find myself opening the car door for the girl i'm seeing. whenever i'm casually dating other girls, i never really did this. the only other time i can think back to when i did this was when the girl was my gf. i just realized this the other day when she smiled at me when i did it. anybody else notice they do this or some other thing they do when they are really into a girl or guy? i pulled her chair out this weekend too. geezus I have never dated a guy who didn't do it, but i am older. I think it is a dying tradition with younger men. Continue to do it, chivalry is still charming at any age! Link to comment
rgm1266
I've been dating my g/f for 8 months and I have opened the door EVERYTIME!! she really likes that. I was opening the door for her and on a couple occasions and people noticed and said to us that is so nice or that is such a gentleman. Woman love a guy who is a gentleman. It really goes a long way!! Link to comment
Alezia
Awww... I wish my boyfriend would do that =). Aslong as you don't suddenly drop it after a while. You could do it less often, although not every time. If not, you'll seem like a fake. Link to comment
Supa_gurl
My husband used to do these kind of things when we were dating. But now...Fughettabout it. He caught me, I'm his, he doesn't have to be chivalrous anymore. edit: He will open the doors sometimes when we are out places, but as far as opening car doors like he used to (like the OP was referring to) he does not. I am sure he may not do it all the time but I am also sure he does it for you from time to time. Link to comment
ImThatGirl
Note to self: If guy doesn't open the car door, he's not interested and no need for much time to determine if he's the one. Link to comment
StrawberryYogurt
I do that all the time for my G/F. I do that for my mom (when my dad's not around) and my sister and female friends, too. I don't do that for some random girl, course some random girl's not going to be in my car anyway. Link to comment

Carmine
I hold doors open for everyone, women and men alike. If I had a girlfriend I'd open the car door for her, but I have a feeling she'd always get out before I had the chance to go around to the other side, lol. At the very least I'd probably be able to close it for her. As I said, with any other doors I do it anyway, so I'd certainly do it for my girlfriend. I'm actually making dinner for the guy I'm seeing, and I don't cook!!!!!!! Why not? Being able to cook is an excellent skill to have, whether you're a man or a woman. Link to comment

If I ever ride with my ex from last year again, I'm going to just sit in the car when we arrive... until he comes to open the door. (He was a runner too like the guy Barbie described) Link to comment

Carmine
i'm nice about opening the door for the girl to get in, not out. i'm not a dam chauffeur. Ah, oh wait, now I get it. I was thinking of getting out of the car...yeah, that'd be a bit too much for the girl to sit in her seat while the guy has to go around and open the door. I'd definitely open the door for her when we're getting in. Well, cooking for one is just no fun!!!! First off, it's great practice. Second off, your meal tastes 10 times better because of all the work you put in to cook it. It's so satisfying to finally sit down to dish I spent making for the past 30 minutes. Link to comment
amipushy
Maybe when they act like a lady, they get treated like one? Link to comment
allypally
amipushy - yes, I think that is true. If they look like one and behave like one then all the more reason why a man would want to treat her like one. Link to comment

cavaliere
Sacre bleu, I'm glad the notion of chivalry hasn't been entirely shot down by women today! I always opened the door for my ex, and she grew to detest it. Then, when I decided not to one day, she had no qualms about asking why. She complained it was a "macho," "overprotective" thing to do, yet complained if I didn't. Go figure. Every other girl I've dated though absolutely loved it. Once, when I was at the casino with a date and the valet, a nice grandmotherly type, brought me my car, she was floored when she saw me open the door. It must not really be that common anymore! On a side note, I've noticed an interesting characteristic in my past relationships. The ones who turned out to be the nicest, most polite women would always lean over and unlock my door for me after I opened the door for them (aka the "Bronx Tale" move). The ones who ended up being selfish and self-centered would just sit on their hands after getting in the car. It might be a bit of nitpicking on my part, but I always watch for this now when I go out with women because it really has proven to be an interesting insight into character, at least for me. So, ladies, when you find yourself in that situation and you want to make a good impression, make that bit of extra effort. Believe me, we notice Link to comment
JadedStar
She complained it was a "macho," "overprotective" thing to do, yet complained if I didn't I can't stand this trait in some women! Its that same set of women that always want equal rights but don't want to give up the benefits of being a female either. The ones who ended up being selfish and self-centered would just sit on their hands after getting in the car. It might be a bit of nitpicking on my part, WOW i always do this and never once did i even cognizantly think about it. it was automatic to do for him. INteresting that you have noticed some women do this and some don't! Link to comment
