How have you personally made people laugh

and eventually warm up to you (or if there was someone you wanted to date, extremely attracted in you) even though...

no one knows anything about the other person?

Because we have the simple greeting, "hi, how are you doing?" which is accompanied by a warm smile. And that greeting has been enough for some people to like you.

But then other people, especially the women I have tried to date, want more. They feel that you're not an OK person unless you can make people laugh. How can you do that when you have limited material to use?

For example there is a huge staff of people working at a bookstore before it opens. If you were a new employee, how could you use your humor to be liked or accepted by everyone?

Bah, not more "be yourself" advice.

It's hard to describe humor. The best way I can describe it is making light and fun of your surroundings. Take nothing too seriously. Take a step back and look at all the little idiosyncrasies in people and the environment, and understand how much of a joke life really is. Most importantly, speak your mind. Don't be afraid to talk.

Being able to make people laugh is just something you are born to do. I've done it my entire life and nobody taught me how to do it, I have just always known how on my own. I can see the humor in anything, and I do mean anything. I think you can either do that or you can't. NO one can teach it to you.

well, first of all beware of coming accross like you're trying too hard, or coming up with something very lame.

if i where to try and warm up to people i would do it in 2 ways:

-humor like you said

-show interest in them/small talk.

it has to all be natural of course.

you can begin by telling something about yourself to someone. or the opposite a.k.a. asking about them: e.g. asking "so how was ur weekend?" etc.

a joke.. hmm i cant reeally think of any. it doesnt have to be super funny. just something like a mild observation is ok too. think jerry seinfield lol.

I'm a socially awkward person, so I tell people funny stories of my personal experiances to help warm up to people.

Like, you go up to someone and start up a casual conversation. Be comfortable with yourself, and not nervous. Eventually, when the time is right, slip a short story in that's actually funny to you. The person may think it's funny too!

I think Jeckyll gave some sound advice. For the most part people love to talk about themselves, show interest and ask questions.

I can find humor in just about anything, especially myself. Try not be too self conscious and find things that may be of similar interest.

If you pay attention, you can sneak a joke in by taking someone's context literally when they say something.

I was with a group of people who were in my recording studio techniques class, we all went out to eat after class once. The people are music geeks, and in one of the conversations one of the guys went "i like minors" (talking about music, like A minor).. and I jump in casually and go ".. yeah, I like minors too" (talking about underage women, JOKINGLY though) and then made a facial expression like I was daydreaming about a girl. They paused, and then all of a sudden started busting a gut. The key to pulling off ones like that are making yourself come off like you are kidding about it, if you were to act all serious and blurt in and say you liked minors, they wouldn't laugh.

just be yourself man. i cant tell you how i make people laugh but im just myself. some people crack jokes, i make people laugh by just being a goof/dork/smartarse. I got bored with normal english so i started making up my own lingo lango words and that usually has people laughin. Dont think about it, just let it roll au natural!

Sarcasm is funny as all hell to most people if you use it the right way. It can't come off rude, you have to make sure it's understood that it's a joke. I use sarcasm all the time and it does wonders. Nothing too bad though and don't use it throughout a conversation, it gets old if you do that. Just a few jabs here and there, but always have a smile on your face or maybe a little laugh afterwards so people know it's not meant literally. You can apply sarcasm to anything you're talking about really, but it's a skill you have to practice so it comes off right. It won't sound right in the beginning but keep trying and see how people respond. Vary it up and when people start responding the way you want them to keep practicing like that, you'll get it soon enough.

I usually make people laugh unintentionally. i remember i worked in a library and I was instructiing the new guy on how to stack the books. As I wittered on I made a comment about how I like to get a New York skyline affect from my book stacking. He laughed, not because my analogy was hilarious (obviously) but because he was tense and my comment was friendlly and said I don't take it all too seriously.

I teach adults who are returning to education after dropping out young many years ago. They have bad memories of it all and expect more of the same, as well as feeling that the course overwhelms them. The first thing I tell them is "don't panic" again its not rapier wit but it puts them at ease. Anything that is a little self deprecating can warm other people to you except superior types who look down on you even more, but sod them, they are no fun.
