I actually hate it. I find it rude. Part of the problem is that it startles me; car horns are loud, and in my opinion shouldn't be used except to warn someone that an accident is about to happen or something of that nature.

More than that, though, it makes me feel like an object, not a person. It's almost like I'm being "summoned" or something. Usually, if I'm walking and a guy honks, I don't even bother to look up. Same with guys who whistle at me and/or say "Hey! Hey baby!" or some other similarly ridiculous thing to get my attention. The last thing I'll do is give them my attention if they approach me like that!

If you want my attention, make eye contact, smile, and say "hello" politely. No honking, no stupid lines, no whistling. If you're in your car and can't approach and do the aforementioned smiling and saying hello, well then...forget it. Look over at me if you must, smile to yourself, but please, no honking.

I know that some find it flattering, but...I just don't. It makes me feel icky. Maybe it's something to do with where I come from (a fairly small town with a lot of guys in pickup trucks who do this very thing), but it just seems tacky to me.

I have 2 choices: is that the best you can do, and I think about giving the finger or i do give teh finger.

it reminds me of that jerry seinfeld standup where he says "Why do guys do this? Do they expect women to kick off their heels, chase after them, attach to the bumper and say 'I'm so glad you honked, otherwise I would've never known how you felt!'"

I live in a really laid back community. There's not alotta cars driving around and if someone honks at you, it's probably someone you know. I'd be much more likely to smile and wave rather than give em the finger any day. But anywhere outside my town, I'd probably wonder what I did wrong

Why is there no option for "it just cracks me up"? I would have chosen that.

Not that I get honked at a whole lot, so on a "bad day" I suppose I'd be voting for "it's okay, at least it's some attention". LOL.

But I voted that I don't care one way or the other. Usually when I hear a honk, I assume I've made some sort of pedestrian error!! Or that it's someone I know, but I'm being too much of a doofus to figure out who it was!

If it were to flatter me, well....a compliment is a compliment. A little objectification never hurt anyone. So long as they stay at a comfortable distance!

(So Clem, are you conducting this poll because "to honk or not to honk, that is the question" keeps you from dreaming at night? )

*Laughs at the "Giving the finge" option*

Once I was at a bus stop with my friend and we were talking to a girl who had just walked up and was waiting for the bus. It was late at night and there weren't many cars, one car passed by and a guy in the passenger side seat cat whistled at her. She flipped them off and my friend and I (Both guys) blew him kisses. Yeah... we got a good laugh of it.

In the same way I ignore builders who gawp and whistle

....careful lads, that scaffolding may come down and knock you clean out, while you are busy leering over a bit of skirt!!

Whatever happened to *chivalry*.....HONK HONK!!

Sadly I live in an area where the hookers run free. It's not fun to take my dog out for a walk at 4:30 in the morning and getting honked at by the pervs looking for a quick bj.

One morning as I was walking my dog, this guy would drive by and honk, drive the opposite way and honk, back and forth honking. He looked ridiculous and he was annoying. Apparently the Sheriff's thought so too because they saw him driving back and forth honking like a nut and pulled him over. LOL

Clem would fare better, if on a rainy day he'd take off his coat, lay it over some puddle, for us ladies to walk on.....save our feet getting wet LOL

The days when men were men.....not HONKERS

once i wanted to pull out my knife and wave it at a guy who honked at me.

its just rude. and the cat calls are idiotic.

I have to wonder if they honk at me and act like morons, how many times a day do they do this? everytime they see a girl?

Don't they get tired of that?

What is the sense in doing this if you are never going to try and approach or meet the girl you are 'hitting' on?

Well, here's a confession. I have never honked at a woman in the street nor have I ever whistled or whatever at one. However, I have done my share (actually probably more than my share) of chatting up attractive females wherever they might be.

However, judgeing from the poll results maybe I should start honking. Too bad my super cool boss car has such a wimpy horn.

As for taking off my coat and laying over a puddle...well, I have nice clothes too!!! Maybe it would be better if I picked up the girl and carried her accross the water. Hmmmm, come to think of it, many of the girls I've met recently think they can walk on water anyway - ooooh shot!

I don't mind it. The thing is I get startled very easily so as long as they don't do it when they're like...two feet away from me, I don't care lol. That said, I wouldn't date or take one of these guys seriously, not that they would actually stop and approach, but if they did I wouldn't.
