Interesting question.


A vague but personal answer: by being faithful to who you are. For me, this basically means that I try to be more or less immune to the standards in my surroundings that are different than my own. It has meant accepting things of myself that I used to consider as negative, such as being very sensitive and a loner-kind of person. Sometimes, when I am down and tired, I remember that I am in the place in life that I always wished for. If there are things that are very different than I want them to be, I try to find the things that I can do to change them (not being dependent on external factors or other people for change is of course inherent to finding happiness in oneself )
