Weeblie
Just received a message from a prospective employer. I called back a couple of times today and kept getting sent to voicemail. So I finally left a brief message. Should I patiently wait till she calls back tomorrow (if they're open)? Or should I take some initiative and try calling again the next time they're open? Mlost
Did they leave a message? If they called you, there was obviously a reason and so there's no reason why they wouldn't try and call you back. But also, if you haven't heard anything by, I'd say, afternoon on Monday, give them a call back. There's nothing unprofessional about that unless you're leaving 15 voice mails a day. Link to comment
Snoopy24
Wait a LEAST a week to call, and say: Hi this is... following up, regarding your search for (position.) With confidence I feel that (my background in) would significantly contribute to (place of employment.) If I can provide any additional information about myself, please do not hesitate to ask. First, while the gist of this is good, don't be scripted. You need to find originality in marketing yourself, especially in the current job market. Second, they already called back. To wait a week before returning a phone call is not a good idea. You can call back the next business day because that's what a responsible person does, they follow up on missed calls. Link to comment

So If she doesn't here from them, she should wait at least a week to call back, again. IMO. And she doesn't have to say word for work for what I wrote. But I think along those lines would be a good professional thing to say. It's to the point and direct. Link to comment
Mlost
It doesn't matter if she left them a brief message; they initiated the contact. There are a million reasons why the company may not immediately return a phone call, and so it's her responsibility to call them back. If the job is corporate, then it's similar to my situation. It's a fact of life that people who leave me messages will not always be there for the first or maybe second return phone call for whatever reason. But I still try and call them back at least once a day until I get them on the line, especially if they're higher up than me. Link to comment
Weeblie
Ah, thanks to both of you for your quick replies! She called back so I guess I was worrying for nothing. Link to comment
SchecterGuy
Yeah, jobs are not like relationships. Employers want to see enthusiasm and initiative. I would keep calling until they answer. Leaving messages would be annoying, but you have to take the initiative to go after the job. D'oh. Guess I should have read the post above mine. Link to comment
