How do you distinguish between a check out or someone just staring?

If they're checking you out, there's usually more eye-movement and probably some eye contact. Like snoopy said, if they're just staring, they've probably got a blank look on their face.

I get caught zoning out all the time and find myself accidentally making eye contact with random people.

Usually if someone is checking you out, they will smile at you. When people are staring they usually have a blank look on their face.

Not so sure about the smile thing, alot of women try to hide it when they get caught checking out much less throwing a smile at you.

Checking you out requires at least 3 steps.

1.) An initial glance in your direction.

2.) An immediate looking away when you catch them looking at you.

3.) A second look after Step #2.

These aren't a guaranteed "check out", but it confirms it's not just a stare.

LOL, I'm so used to being rejected that I don't know when I'm being checked out! Here is the entire story from another post!

I was shopping the other day and the cutest young lady and I locked eyes and smiled. I kept "bumping" into her in every isle and she kept looking at me and smiling, then shyly looking away. I thought I saw a ring, so I gave up.

I went to load my groceries into my car and she was parked 2 cars away just finishing up loading her groceries!!! She looked up and smiled again (everytime it was one of those eye locking things). She got in her car and sat there, fixing her face, adjusting her mirror. I mean she sat there the entire time I loaded my groceries.

So, I finished loading and she was still there, so I ate my sushi in the car! She continued to do little silly things in her car - looking through her purse, adjusting mirrors, etc... she sat in her car the entire time I was eating my sushi. We looked over at each other a few more times...

Hmmmmmmm, did I blow the chance to meet a 3D woman? Was she wearing a ring?

Well, I didn't walk over to her car, and she FINALLY pulled away.

I shall never know

hmm, I stare and look serious even when I check out a girl. Plus i don\'t look away when they catch me. Its very weird and i try my best to stop it. Just saying that it may not be the same for everyone but those steps generally hold true.

When i see a girl i tend to walk up beside her or something lean over a counter and take a look at her. if she notices i turn away and then turn back around to soon just to get caught checkin em out. some type of facial expression eyebrow lift followed by a smile then a chew on my thumb nail.

...... really i guess its all about the facial expression to tell the difference

What's your mechanism for distinguishing between someone checking you out or if someone is just glancing at you instead?

Anytime a girl has checked me out, it's usually been prolonged staring, smiling, and looking away as soon as I make eye contact - and out of the corner of my eye, catching her looking at me again.

HOWEVER, I never take it seriously. When a girl is looking at me, I assume that she has mistaken me for someone else or that I remind her of someone she knows (like a brother, cousin, etc.), or that she's looking at a good looking guy who happens to be standing near me. I never assume that she likes me or anything.

Well they will be flirty when checking you out, like look you up and down, look at you from a side glance, then very soon after look away, maybe smile and then look away.

Staring you down is when they directly look at you and look back every 10-20 seconds for over a minute or two. They tend to not be as friendly or overly friendly too.

If you're talking about a guy checking you out, then yes. If you mean a girl checking out a guy, then hell no, they hardly ever smile. Too timid to.

I smile at guys when I'm checking them ouit. I even say hello!

what is with guys.. they cannot let you see them looking at you... why not just smile and say hello if you are interested in someone?

People on the mainland behave so strangely at times, imho. Gosh.. when I lived Hawaii, I would see guys looking at me, and then they would smile...

I would do the same.. it wasn't that big a deal to find someone looking at you.

Now.. i do the same thing on the mainland, the guys look at me like i'm evil incarnated.

What is with all the head games anyway?
