what's with the facial movements?

okay, so i made the mistake of recommending a friend at my current workplace. one of the reasons this was a mistake is that i can be a sensitive person, and there has already been drama because of our personal history. i've had meetings with my supervisors about it, and i always end up getting emotional. only, i hate the thought of crying in front of them, especially if i don't think i should be crying...so i try to hold it in, and then my chin and other parts of my face start moving in these weird ways. it's really humiliating...but i don't know what would happen if i didn't fight it...

If it's just quivering, that's not a weird movement at all. Maybe the best thing would be to just start getting comfortable with saying "I'm sorry, can you excuse me for one minute?" Just go outside and cry if you want to and then pull yourself together.

But at work, you do need to learn to have a somewhat thicker skin. What things at work make you so upset that you want to cry?

well the friend i recommended happens to be the best friend i've ever had...only our friendship has gone downhill recently...i'm not exactly "popular" at work because i'm not as sociable as she is. when other people do things to hurt my feelings, or try to get under my skin, she never defends me and i just take everything so personally.

So people at work do things to purposefully hurt you, or do you react to things that they are unknowingly doing?

well i know i'm easily annoyed...so i usually wait until i absolutely can't take something anymore, and then i say something. it's usually not in a very professional way, but it could be a lot worse. a lot of my coworkers are unprofessional too, just on a more regular basis. i don't understand why it's so wrong when i over-react. now i'm getting the cold shoulder and certain people are doing things to intentionally hurt me, and she just goes with the flow...even if it means playing their game of trying to get to me.

Sounds to me like your use of the term "best friend I've ever had" seems misplaced. As soon as you're able to emotionally cut yourself off from her, then it shouldn't sting as much.
