Kind of a wierd question

I dunno if this is the right forum or not but it's a menstrual question from a guy(me). Me and my girlfriend started having sex about 6 months ago and neither of us had ever had sex before. My girlfriend says that since we started having sex her periods have been worse than they've ever been and EXTREMELY painful, every single month. Is this normal? If so, is there anything we can do?

well, i don't see why her periods should be any worse than before, unless she's having a period right after sex. then that's a medical issue.

if she's having more frequent periods (like more than once a month) then she needs to she her doctor. if she's bleeding a larger amount than normal (she can tell by how many pads she's changing compared to normal,) she needs to see a doctor.

but if she's bleeding the normal amount and having only once a month period as usual, and is only complaining of pain, she should try taking over the counter pain meds, such as motrin. some women get mentrual pain that are just too much to bear. but if she feels that her pain is not going away with the pain meds, then she should go see a doctor.

btw, i donno if u guys are under age or not, but i hope u are practicing safe sex. please use a condom.

I 20 and she 21. She's still getting one a month or so, it kind of shows up every 5th week or so instead of 4. She says she isn't bleeding more but the pain is just MANY times worse than it was before we started having sex. She also says that it only hurts for like the first day or two then just bleeds for the next 5. Sorry for sounding naive, this is all new to me.

i think she needs to see an OB/gyn right away and have an exam. i'm not sure what's going on, but it needs to be checked out by a doctor.

has she lost a lot of weight in the last 6 months? or gained a lot of weight, or switched birth control?

She's told me that her periods haven't ever been every 28 days but usually like a week late at the most. She has gained maybe 2 or 3 pounds in the last year or so but nothing crazy, she eats well and healthy but she's tall and skinny.

The only birth control we've used so far is condoms. I just found it odd that it got wayy worse after we started having sex. What does the pelvic exam look for? Sorry for the million Q's, like I said it's all new to me

maybe she has an infection deep down somewhere? i don't know at all. maybe a cyst or growth? i'm not a doctor, so i can't tell you for certain. i just think she should get it checked out by a doctor, we really can't diagnose her over the internet.

since you two were both virgins, it's highly unlikely she has an STD. since she is still young, her period might not be 'stabilized' yet. i recently started getting far more painful periods when i lost 30 pounds in about 6 months. now that i've kind of stopped losing weight, the period pain is decreasing. but, 2-3 lbs, i doubt would make a huge difference.

every woman should get a pelvic exam once she starts being sexually active. schedule an appointment as soon as you can.

i think she's having a normal period. i think her menstrual cramps could have just naturally gotten worse even if she didn't have sex. it is recommended that she sees a doctor for a pelvic exam since she has become sexually active. they will check for std's and make sure everything is normal. and her period does not have to be exactly 28 days. if it's regular around every 30 days or so, that's normal. but if she's not too worried about it, and she gets the menstrual pain again, just try the pain med first. as u said, she gets the pain and then the pain goes away when she starts bleeding. that's what menstrual cramps are. she really sounds normal to me. just try the motrin pain med next time she gets the pain. if she's more alarmed about it, then she should see a doctor.

once women become sexually active, their cycles start to change. i'm not sure how drastically they change, as it probably depends on the woman. i know for me, the only thing that really changed is that i now get a bit more cramping, but nothing too painful. perhaps she should go see her gynecologist and talk to them about this problem.
