carbon14
Almost finished with My Secret History by Paul Theroux-I wonder how much of this is his autobiography and how much is fiction? Reading And Thereby Hangs A Tale by Jeffery Archer-if you've never read his books, try them! His novels are notorious for having a twist at the end and this is a book of short stories. His own life is quite interesting as well and I wish he'd write his autobiography already! Just starting The Crossing by Cormac McCarthy-I loved All The Pretty Horses and can't wait to see how the Border Trilogy plays out. Link to comment

BritterSweet
Just a few days ago, I finished "Journey to the Center of the Earth" by Jules Verne. I enjoyed it a lot more than the movie version I saw as a kid. Just Axel, his uncle Professor Lidenbrock, and Hans. No pet duck. Link to comment

Akela
The third book from the Game of Thrones series. Is it sad that I dont even know the name of the third book? I got to the end of the second and just picked up the third and starting reading! Awesome books if you're ok with poisonings and incest and kingslaying and political intrigue and other riveting plotlines! Ive only looked at about two of the sixty seven pages of posts here but Ive already seen The Help mentioned. That's a great one too. My other recent favorite has been the Hunger Game trilogy. Akela
The Book Thief - Markus Zusak. Very good, deep book. I actually had trouble getting into that one. I read it over the summer and kept putting it down for other books. (I had recently discovered Janet Evonavich's Stephanie Plum novels so to be fair this "deep" book had a lot of light competition.) I loved the perspective and the book was not at all what I thought it was going to be. I eventually finished it because I truly cared what happened to the characters but I just really found some of the plotline drawn out and tedious IMO. Link to comment
Akela
Just finished A Thousand Splendid Suns, can't decide if I liked this one or the Kite Runner better. Has anyone read these two? Finally realized Im responding to really old posts, but the librarian in me can't resist answering! Both were brilliant! Thousand Splendid Suns is the pick by my friend. I think it's mostly because of being able to relate more to the female characters. I love how that book is set up. The first two sections of two different characters and then those characters interacting in the end. However, I might have to choose Kite Runner as my favorite, probably only because I read it first and it really haunted me. I dont normally read these type of books (the latest bestsellers or multicultural) but I just found myself fascinated about the commonalities between human beings. I felt that I left that book with a better understanding of the Afghan people. Not to mention just the mistakes we all make as humans that haunt us for the rest of our lives. Link to comment
inveniamviam
Essays by E.B. White, which is a bit unorthodox for me, because I'm not the type of person who would normally pick up a book on essays. But this one seems promising and it certainly doesn't hurt that I'm a huge fan of his. I'm excited Link to comment
