About three or four weeks ago, I went from a pretty much sedentary lifestyle to eating right (about 1500 calories a day) and doing a 60 minute cardio work out 4-5 times a week. I've lost about 5 pounds already, which is great. I just wanted to know if a change in diet and fitness routine like this would alter my menstruation schedule. I'm just a little late for my period (4 days). I'm not on birth control so I know my period can't be on a fixed schedule, but the last few months it had been coming earlier and earlier and this lateness is just a little weird for me. My boyfriend and I have always been very safe, but I know surprises can happen and I wanted to know if it could be because of my new fitness routine. Any advice would be great. Thanks.

that is possible. i know in my case, i joined weight watchers, lost 8 pounds in the first month, then my period was a week late and i had the worst cramps and nausea ever!!! and no WAY that i was pregnant. i think the weight loss and exercise had a lot to do with it.

my periods are sort of getting back on track. i think any kind of a big change will effect them like that. at least, that has been my experience.

My girlfriend back in highschool went on Jenny Craig. She lost 15 pounds in 8 weeks and skipped her period for the same 'period' of time. Her doctor was concerned and told her to up her caloric intake. Sure enough, boom, her period returned in about a week. So, yes, extreme changes in diet can alter your monthly cycle.

Yes, any changes in your diet and physical activities along with stressing about you being pregnant can delay your menstrual cycle. But just to be on the safe side, you should also take a pregnancy test as CB has suggested. In the event that you are pregnant, you probably want to up your caloric intake and decrease your exercise.
