I have been doing some reading on this topic and found it very interesting. I hope this helps some of you out there...it really rang true for me. When you focus on things too much...in a negative way and worry...some how it comes true. But when you think positive etc...positive things start to happen. This is similar to the thought about how ONCE YOU FORGET your ex...they call. Its bc your negative energy and focus has stopped...bc u simply did not think about them...you were prob focusing on something positive...or things finally started going well. When things start to go bad...have u ever noticed more and more negative things start to happen? Here is another thought..u can not change the past...so focus on the positive future...on things u can change in ur life...forget the negative..acknowledge them once..then replace the thoughts with positives. Always worrying and thinking negative thoughts do not help....only make things worse. Your ex already knows that you want them back...you do not need to waste time focusing on them not calling you, ignoring you etc....bc that just makes it come true...then u start to notice more and more that they are moving on etc....but ONCE u forget...bam some how they all of a sudden call you...when u finally forget. This is not about getting your ex back...this is not the focus. The focus is on you. If in the process your ex comes back...great...if not...at least u r focusing on positive and making YOUR life happy and for the HAPPY future you will have.

"Play Ahead of the Curve – you can spend your life playing catch-up if you let it be that way. You can spend most of your time running after things that have already occurred and complaining about what can never be changed. Instead of dwelling on what isn’t working in your life or all of the unfair things that have happened to you, start trying to play ahead of the curve. Start looking only at what can be changed and what has hope for the future. We all have regrets, move beyond them and find what you can do now, always looking for what is actionable. If it isn’t actionable, it cannot yield forward momentum and, thereforeeee, isn’t worth your time. Never look backward for too long, there isn’t anything that can be done to help you back then. Help yourself now by finding actions to take instead of excuses to make."

The sooner people take this stuff on board, the better.

I can't imagine how stupid I'd feel if I looked back one day to see I'd spent months overanalysing text messages and drawing up "strategies"...

Let it go, people.

It's your best bet, honestly.

I agree with what you wrote...however I will say that just because you think negatively about something, doesn't mean something bad will happen and conversely just because you think positively about something, doesn't mean the positive will happen. I think you have to be realistic about things. You can't will things to happen when they are out of your control.

I've read some pretty good arguments against the law of attraction, but I won't get into it here. I don't believe that it applies to every situation and there are things that are just way out of our control (natural disasters, death, etc.) I do think there's some good that can be taken from the law of attraction and that is the whole thinking positively thing.

I mean it's not easy, but if you try to think of positive things and focus more on what you want instead of what you don't have...it's just better for you.

Not a very good way of explaining it. I just find that thinking negatively all the time turns me into a helpless victim. So when I think positively, I'm more likely to find solutions and do things to improve my situation.

I was gonna write a post about this here too... I believe in The Secret... and I totally attract my ex to pull away further from me and meet other people because I was always like "oh he'sprobably on a date.." then all of a sudden I saw him on a date. I totally attracted that.

so how does one make the law of attraction work for you in regards to people? For example, an dumpee that wants a dumper back, a friend that wants good things to happen in his/her life, someone who wants something good to happen to them or to others.

I guess I don't understand completely, the law of attraction. I know if you stop thinking negatively and think good things, it's supposed to draw positivity into your life.

A very interesting quote from the link you posted above:

People have natural chemistries. You and your ex obviously possessed a natural chemistry. It doesn’t matter how far apart you keep sodium (Na) from chloride (Cl) the instant they are close enough to each other, they WILL form salt (NaCl), period! Same for you and your ex if you get back on track.

Loved it !

the law of attraction is hard to explain and of course there are people that dont believe it. this is something that i can relate to. a lot of times when i worry or get so stressed over things...they get worse and worse. the moment i stop worrying...i swear they fix themselves. however...for some reason...i always struggle about not worrying about things. i seem to always worry. but now i know how this works...im trying to find a solution and stop worrying etc. besides...its a waste of energy, time and makes me feel like crap. its best to at least try to focus on positive and things u have control over...if u dont have control over something...what can u do? but to let go...and what ever it is...if its meant to be will happen...if not...at least u focus on something else and good things to come...and they will come.

I have actually started to attract my perfect mate... not my ex, because I think I can do better... I've written down a list of the qualities I want in my perfect mate... such as "

My Perfect Mate is loyal, respectful, and loving to me. He values me and supports me in every way possible." There is a whole thread on that forum... my list is not too long, but describes what I want... and I read it out loud to myself twice a day... I can feel my energy getting positive and I am so sure I will attract my perfect mate very soon!

Law of attraction is obviously not quite as simple as the movies like "The Secret" make it sound. It a fun movie to watch but you can't just will to be rich, it takes action.

A really good movie is "What The Bleep Do We Know". It's a more scientific themed flic based on quantam physics but it esentially shows that perception is reality. A positive minded peep will attact positive experiences as "like attacts like", always. will attract other

The self-fulfilling prophecy can be a powerful force in peoples thought processes. Keeping trains of thought that lead to progress, happiness, you try to keep and build. Maladaptive thought processes you need to recognize to begin to change your behavior. This impacts all areas of our lives; friends, love relationships, business and intimacy. Behaviorism is a good way to condition away negative thought patterns and reinforce the positive. "The Secret" is a book that wraps positive thinking into a delusional mess. There is no one secret.

This is something most every credible religion and solid spiritual practice has taught from the beginning.

Guess sometimes it is easier to hear in our more popular cultural forms. In this case, the phenom of capitalism!

If we buy it, it's worth something. If it doesn't cost much, we tend to think it is worthless. We want the seal of approval from the "experts".

Something that a lot of religious and spiritual leaders have known for a long time too (not just the marketers and movers n' shakers).

Ordinary people have and do know it.

Anyways. There is something to it.

It's aligning with reality a bit more. Example:

We are energy and do have an interdependent relationship to our environment.

Somewhere, some people who have had their feet on the ground are going "well, DUH, people. Been trying to show you this forever! " lol.

Isn't our whole lives a struggle to grasp this, and to be the ones determining our own destiny to the best of our ability in line with reality?

It's not the end in itself, but it has some value. My 2 cents. (preferring to learn the hard way myself)

That movie "What the bleep do we know" sounds interesting.

There's logic in keeping focus on your goals, yes. Once belief in the law of attraction crosses into magical thinking, though, like believing that your ex will always return to you if you do certain things, it ceases to be rational and borders then on the schizophrenic. It's nice to think that nothing is beyond our control; however, reality dictates otherwise.

When I first saw the video, I wondered who was paying for this slick, breathlessly hyped collection of pseudoexperts and what the payoff would be.

In my area, the show is coming to town, $30 per seat, and probably selling the Secret T shirts like hotcakes.

The Secret is a business venture by folks who realize profits aren't just created by positive thinking or visualization, but good old fashioned hype. If they want us to embrace the Secret, they should simply imagine and expect us to, without hiring an ad agency and team of roving publicists.

I find more genuine inspiration in The Life of Brian....

The Secret?

Putting some very, very old ideas and concepts in new wrapping and marketing them.

Nothing new or exclusive about The Law of Attraction...and "The Secret" folks don't have the market cornered on these concepts.

I've been studying these concepts and similar metaphysical beliefs for at least 15 years....they weren't new ideas then, and the folks involved in "The Secret" and merchandising it weren't any part of the things I read.

You can find the same type of material at no cost in the library...or any Unity or Religious Science church.

I believe this. Its happened with ex's for me. Each time I was DONE and wanted no more, they came right back! One I took back, and shes the reason I'm here now. She left again.

I already know I have to let go and get over her, to make progress. Its just been harder this time. But I do believe that when i do feel better about ME and less about her, she will come around. I will here from her again, some way or another.

It always happens that way.
