BoddenProBowler06
My girlfriend has it and got it from her previous ex-boyfriend that cheated on her with another woman. She since hasn't had intercourse with anyone for over a year. We've done anal, oral, and all that, but not intercourse yet. I know it can be transmitted through those types of sex, but I don't have it. She went to the doctor about a month ago and it was clearing up. We are probably going to end up getting engaged within the next month (I plan on proposing). Do you think it's okay for us to have intercourse? Or should we both wait until it clears up more? Or will it never go away? Link to comment
Mythical_Suicide
How were you tested for HPV? There isn't an accurate test for males. So you can't be certain that you DONT have it and she can't be certain WHO she got it from to be honest. Even if it does "clear up" she still has the strain, and there is a possibility of transmission but the fact that you have had oral sex and anal sex you have been exposed to it (You expose yourself to it even if you just finger her). What strain does she have? Link to comment
AwdreeHpburn
Why not use protection until you can get the medical facts from your doctor?? Link to comment
Mythical_Suicide
Why not use protection until you can get the medical facts from your doctor?? Condoms aren't completely effective against protecting from HPV. Especially if it's the strain that causes warts. Link to comment

What strain does she have? She can be certain because her only other sexual partner before me was her ex. She has the kind that does not give off genital warts. You can't even tell she has it. Does this stuff ever clear up? Or will there always be a risk of getting it from her? Link to comment
AwdreeHpburn
OK - but its a mite safer than anal sex, yeh? My advice to OP is to research HPV cos something shocking like, 70/75% of humans contract an HPV. Here... link removed read some stuff on this website. From the Center for Disease Control. Bodden, just look into the virus, I think most have cures to be honest. But just go see your DR. Ask a lot of questions. Link to comment
Mythical_Suicide
HPV Doesn't have a "cure". It is a virus that stays in the body and can reoccur at any time. Alot of strains do clear on their own but once again, it stays in the body so can still be passed on to a partner! and yea, I agree condoms are a safer bid than anal sex was just making it clear to the OP that it isn't completely effective. There are many different strains of HPV. Some give off warts, some just cause abnormal cell changes and some can lead to cancer. Both you and her need to do some research on the strain that she has specifically. Link to comment

greenmonster
Bodden...you need to do a little reading up on HPV and its affects on males... considering that the strain she has isn't the kind that can give you warts then there is basically no concern on your part. you more than likely already have it anyway just from skin to skin contact from anal & such... right now there are over 100 strains of HPV that have been identified...and only 6 of which affect males in anyway...only like 10 that affect anyone really...and only about 20 of all the strains are even detectable by any of the common tests...the rest require a much more intensive testing process that clinics normally don't even test for because they simply don't affect the body. considering its a virus....no...it will never just "go away" or "clear up" virus's are permanent...they may lie dormat in the body for years and years...but they will always be there. you aren't in danger when it comes down to this...I wouldn't be shocked to find out if you already had it anyway...besides that...if you plan on marrying this girl and being with her for the rest of your natural life...then whats the point of this conversation? AwdreeHpburn
I had an HPV that caused cervical cancer. I had bits of my cervix removed and no longer have any trace of an HPV. At least according to the tests run by my Dr here in MN. I'm not trying to be combative, I'm just saying a lot is known about this stuff, maybe not by me, but by Drs and I think if he's going to remain sexually active knowing what he knows, he should at the very least, wear a condom. Condoms are not 100% effective against anything. Pregnancy, HIV, HPV etc. But I still recommend using them over not. ESP when you for whatever reason can't abstain. Cos obviously, that'd be the BEST way to not contract a sexually transmitted virus...... Link to comment
Mythical_Suicide
You will never be certain that you will be "together forever" but that is a risk you will have to choose whether it's worth taking or not. You could already have it and not know it. As I said, there isn't an accurate test for males, so i'm not sure how you can say you don't have it. I have the high-risk strain that can lead to Cervical cancer and I have had to undergo many treatments for it and I have had it clear up only to have it return again a few months later. Finally, 3 years after it first being caught (and 2 LEEP CONES and many biopsy's later) it has cleared up for now. Link to comment
Mythical_Suicide
This strain can still cause problems for males, given the research for this isn't as widespread as it is for females there are still health risks for males having this strain of HPV and it's even worse because there is no testing currently for it. rose2summer
I can tell you from my own example. I was diagnosed with HPV, and have since cleared the virus. I have been tested a few times now and no signs of it. Originally researchers thought that the virus would disappear/reappear like AIDS, but recent studies show that if the individual has a strong immune system, they MAY clear it completely, like myself. It can go either way, persist, stay the same, or disappear. I was in a lot of pain sometimes while it cleared, but am so happy it is gone. And yes it is debatable whether you can clear it, but some reliable medical journals indicate it. I never received treatment and was just closely monitored. Also, what my dr. told me and he is a ongyn oncologist, so he specializes in cancers related to HPV, is that it's almost impossible to live with someone and not get it. It's easily spread, so you can wear a condom and still have a chance of getting it. Maybe reading more into it like someone suggested, that cdc website is great, is a wonderful idea. My doctor and the many studies I have been involved in. HPV can lead to many other problems in men. Nowhere did I say you could be affected by cervical cancer but there are many other problems HPV can lead to in men, it just isn't widely known because the lack of research. It isn't until just recently that they connected HPV to Cervical Cancer. Even then still not alot is known about HPV. Link to comment
rose2summer
Mythical suicide is right, HPV can be linked to male genital tract cancers, but they aren't as common. And so true about HPV, they have known it causes cervical cancer since the early 1920's or so, but it didn't make it to the media until now. Booo hoo for us. Link to comment
AwdreeHpburn
"Recent studies from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and from the University of Washington suggest that HPV may eventually be cleared, or rooted out altogether, in most people with well functioning immune systems. It appears that in some cases the virus does remain in the body indefinitely, producing symptoms if the immune system weakens." - There's a TON of info on the topic. Here's another link link removed We don't really have to figure this out amongst our selves. Wikipedia has a lot of the answers. It gets pretty technical and scientific but a lot of info there. Mythical_Suicide
It's just like Herpes, once you have it.. you have it forever. Whether it causes problems or symptoms again, as PP posted it all depends on your immune system and other factors. But you will always have it! Link to comment
