pucca
I was wondering whether prospective employers can contact anybody else as reference than the people that you have given details for? My unit manager gave me a reference (a good one) but I dont get along well with the manager so im a bit worried they will try and contact him. I live in the uk if thats any help... Link to comment

No. they shouldn't be able to do that. Everytime I have given my references, i've had to sign something saying that is their personal information and that theyhave no right to asl anyone else except the contact information I provided. Honey Pumpkin
No, they can't in the UK. It's illegal to do that I *think*. They can ask you to provide another reference if they want more information. You should be okay. Link to comment
DaDancingPsych
From my understanding, they can not. However, I always provide them with the references I want them to contact. Link to comment
glegend
How would they if each reference is specifc to who they talk to Link to comment
Flux
No I don't think they can... It's illegal I believe. though I think they would bend the rules occasionally, but only in extreme conditions. But generally I think you will be fine, they will only contact the reference you specified Link to comment
