le_petit_lapin
Hello, all. I used to be a fairly regular contributor to these boards, but I felt as though my old posts no longer reflected who I was... so I made a new screen name for the new year! That brings me to this: it's the new year. The holidays were not kind to my hips. There's a lot more to love of me now. I do not notice any extra fat anywhere else, but I'm getting those dreaded rolls over my jeans! I'm fairly young, so I've always taken the whole "I can eat whatever I want, whenever I want" thing for granted... but now my metabolism is slowing down as I'm maturing... Anyway, I've got these love handles. What kinds of exercises will, uh, get rid of them? They're awful. I heard somewhere that you "can't get rid of lovehandles" with exercise, but that sounds awfully ridiculous. Also, I'm trying to eat healthier (but less food) now. I need some low cal/low fat food that's also filling. It also needs to be easy to prepare because I live in a sorority house and kitchen space can be limited... Thanks, I'm sure there have been many posts like these over the past couple weeks! Link to comment
MaNg0s
Just try eating simple foods like pastas and salads. Also you can try jogging or cycling that is a great way to lose that unwanted holiday weight. Link to comment
BeStrongBeHappy
love handles are basically extra fat pockets... so if you lose weight they will disappear or be reduced. Pilates exercises are great for toning all areas of the body. but love handles are notoriously hard to smooth out becuase they are basically fat, and need to lose weight to get rid of them. a good trick to lose weight when you are in a setting where food is served to you is to eat half. so whatever you get eat half and stop. if you eat out, half a sandwhich. if you're at dinner at home, half of everything they serve on the plate. also cut out all junk food, empty calories and sweets of any kind, side bread, etc. just don't eat it. Yes. There is a pilates class offered at my college. I was really into it when I was on the ski team, but since my injury I haven't been toning up. Also, the "eat half" rule is a good idea for sorority food. Love it. Thank you! Link to comment
JeckyllNHyde
I cut down my carbs. That reduced my stomach fat somewhat. I'm thinking on going on a temporary lowered carbs diet (less rice, bread, cereals, more salads, chicken, fish, fruits.) Link to comment

I'm on my sorority's meal plan, so I'm stuck with whatever the cook is making us that day. (Usually a lot of carbs!) But I will monitor them better, and maybe opt for the salad instead of the main course... Link to comment
Flux
Hmm, this might sound insane but I did the screen name change to, lol. Anyways, its complete bollocks that you can't get rid of love handles, lol. When you lose weight they will disappear along with it. I should know, my love handles have been in and out of my life every couple months for the last two years What I will say is that celery is good for snacking on. I heard a rumour that it burns more calories to eat it than it actually has, but I have no idea if this is true or not. But its still a good snack either way, unless you don't like it in which case this piece of information was completely useless... Anyhoo, good luck Link to comment
