RIPDIME
I've been told I have nice hair. I have long hair and I haven't really taken care of it and know that it could be improved. Here are my problems: 1. I have some frizz mostly on the top of my hair. I want to get rid of all of the frizz. 2. Lately my hair has been pretty dry. So I assume it would be nicer if it was smoother. What can I do? 3. I've always had problems with the fact that my hair is really thick. What I think though is that it is a bit too puffy. How can I reduce that to make it less puffy? Is there anything else I should do, to make my hair nicer? All I really use now is Shampoo and Conditioner, I really know nothing about how to mantain hair. Last of all when my hair dries in the day, when I brush it, it gets a lot more puffy than if I don't. So I usually brush it when it's wet nowadays. What should I do in that case? Anyways I probably sound pretty feminine but I just want to take care of my hair. I find it stupid how men aren't allowed to take care of themelves, it's pretty sexist if you ask me. Link to comment

m12988
Tell you what, if my man stops maintaining his looks, there will not be any sex. lol. You are right that men should keep up their appearances as much as women, and i'm not talking about things people can't control, like weight gain due to aging and health downfalls, wrinkles, gray and losing hair, i'm just talking hygeine, brush and make your hair presentable, take care of your skin, keep a nice, well groomed appearance with nice clothes (doesnt matter where from, just pants that dont fall off your butt). Anyways, about your hair, I have thick curly hair and when i straighten it with a ceramic flat iron (they run about 75 bucks and up for the best). Maybe you should invest in it. At first i thought it was too pricey, but it is worth every penny. Dont worry about hair damage etc, because they have a few heat protectants out there. I use it without anything but hair serum, and my hair is not damaged. That is the only way i can think of that would give you thin, smooth hair minus friz. I have yet to find a magical shampoo or chemical that will do it and anything chemical that CAN should probably not be used on the human head. If you do buy one of these expensive irons, i encourage you to keep the box and receipt in a good place. These things have a year warranty (depending on the type) and one time, i bought a faulty one i guess, it had broke in 2 months. I was able to bring the faulty one back to the store, explain and show the clerk my receipt. I was able to exchange right away and my exchange one lasted 2 1/2 years. So i highly reccomend them for anyone. Link to comment
m12988
also, if your hair has been dry lately, you may want to get a minor trim for it. It may be dry due to dead ends, if you haven't trimmed it recently. Link to comment
JadedStar
Hmm, don't usually hear of frizz on the top and not the bottom...i suggest a silicone hair product like frizz ease .... rub it in the palm of your hands (only takes a tiny amount) and rub in your hair when wet ... brush thru. Put a little bit more on it when dry to tame the frizz down. This also will help it look smoother. Also when damp blow dry it by pointing the hair dryer at the top of the hair shaft downward. Never blow dry it upward. This roughens the hair cuticle and makes it look frizzier. Always downward. Keep it like this going around each side while brushing it downward.... Your hair gets "puffier" when you brush it when dry because you obviously have a lot of natural wave. brush it with a dampened brush. Lastly, go to a salon and ask a stylist for a recommendation on a good shampoo and conditioner for your hair. I cannot tell you how much of a difference a good shampoo and conditioner makes. There are not many shampoos from the drugstore that make the hair feel all that great that i have found. I use much less of the salon products so even tho they are more expensive they go much further. I also suggest going to regular trimmings to keep your hair in good shape. If you have long hair that means you have old hair as its been around a good while as it grows....it needs to have the ends clipped often to get rid of dead ends that drain the hair of nourishment that keeps it healthy looking. While getting it trimmed ask the stylist to show you how to blowdry it the way i suggested above to keep it from getting frizzier at the top.... Link to comment
Shiranai
link removed I only use this and Abba. They're not the best, but you can find them at really reasonable prices. I like Biolage because you can hunt for a really good bargain. They're typically retailed at 16~24 dollars per bottle for the largest bottle. However, a lot of times you see the largest bottles selling for 12~14 dollars a bottle. So far, the most expensive I'd paid, is 27 dollars for both the shampoo and the conditioner. It's a large bottle that lasts me a full year, and it has made my hair quality a lot better since I started using it. I only use the purple one since it locks in water well. Link to comment

Kiwi_Sweet
Here are a couple of things that you could do...If your hair is frizzy, it's probably getting too much heat? You must blowdry your hair I'm assuming? I think the very best way you could dry your hair is by letting it "air-dry"... When you do this, it's less intense and it doesn't get all frizzy, or at least as frizzy as a blow-drier makes it. If you have to dry your hair, and you don't have time to let it air-dry, then you can buy a diffuser. It's a round looking thing with air holes on the back of it that you stick onto the tip of your blow drier...(lol...doesn't sound to good)...What it does, is it allows you to dry your hair without it becoming so frizzy. It pretty much only blows heat, and not all that air that normal blow-drying does. It also allows you to dry the ends, to soak up all the water that drags your roots down and if you want to, dry the roots after the ends are dry, so your hair dries evenly. If you are using a lot of shampoo, then that could be drying out your hair as well... If your hair is really dry, dry to the point where you don't have much natural oil, than maybe you could buy some serum and apply it to your hair before blow drying, so you will maintain some shine and oil? pinkelephant
start using quality products, dont straighten your hair - thats ridiculous - unless you want to spend a lot of money buying a straightener that's good and products to protect your hair against the heat. the key is to nurist your hair. in order to do so, just start using quality shampoo and conditioner. if your hair is dry, try one of those deep conditioners once in awhile. that's all there is to it.
