awake at bedtime, sleepy in the mornings

Do you know why someone would be wide awake when it's time to go to bed but so tired in the morning that they could sleep all day, then when awoken at 9 every morning, they're so tired they have a headache and can hardly keep their eyes open?

The inability to sleep at night isn't because of having things on their mind. The person is wide awake - heart beating fast and feeling like they just drank 3 cups of coffee.

eek. This stinks for sure. I've had this happen and it got to the point that I went to the doctor for a sleeping prescription...but after a few days of a metallic yucky taste in my mouth I started doing simpler and less disgusting things to sleep at night. I don't eat or drink anything after six, this food and drink can fuel your body (thats its job) but thats an inconvenience in the evenings around bedtime. I take a walk (nothing really exercis-ey about it just a nice long stroll) for about an hour after dinner which helps to wind things down. Before bed I take a nice hot bath which relaxes me at least and makes me kinda sleepy. . .(this is where all my required reading gets accomplished) and then I go into my room (which is kept at a low temp around 60) and the temperature causes me to snuggle in my blankets. All these things, according to my doctor, can help someone to sleep, and it certainly has helped me. Maybe it will help you too!

Reply to everyone above^^Or, she could be COMPLETELY NORMAL..I know..It's hard to believe, because most of US are a HANDFUL...But, yeah..I think it could be completely normal?? Maybe you are a nocturnal person?

You also have an infant. Maybe you sleeping patterns are up feeding the baby throughout the night??

I bet you that's what it is?

I think "someone" needs to regulate their sleep pattern.

Do you nap at all? I hear it's best NOT to nap during the day if you have insomnia bc this further disrupts your sleep.

Also, when you go to bed, take away things that may distract you from sleeping -- e.g. TV, computer.

i actually had a buddy that used to have sleeping problems, went to the clinic and everything. they told him to take naps during the day and that's what worked lol seems counterintuitive doesn't it?

i think it depends on what kind though. i take a multivitamin in the morning and i'm wide awake within an hour when it has fully kicked in. i couldn't take these at night.

Sorry, but unless your vitamins are packed with caffeine, then having energy after taking your vitamins is ALL in your head...LOL

Vitamins do not directly serve as a source of energy, but they aid the enzymes that generate energy from the energy producing nutrients like protein, carbohydrates and fats. However, they play a major role in helping out in the chemical reaction that leads to energy, which enables you to perform your daily routine activities effectively.

If you are from a part of the world where its winter now and the coldest time, i could explain the tiredness in terms of a type of Seasonal Affective Syndrome.

Or perhaps just coldness, its hard to reach the optimum heat when you get in bed at night, and so for the first hour or 2 the body may stay largely stimulated because of the cold. In a morning your then tired cuz of lack of sleep deprivation, and becuz you're now snug and at optimum heat... and then have to get up... lifes unfair!

Sounds like me it could mean you're nocturnal and probably need to adjust your sleeping patterns.

I guess it's a variety of reasons. I just don't understand why I'm so awake at night and sleepy in the morning. Then I'll be SO sleepy all day but I resist taking a nap so that I can fall asleep at night. Then when bedtime comes, I lay awake for an hour. It's weird.

i don't believe, by nature, that human beings are nocturnal creatures. i could be wrong though

they arent. *a little off-topic but here goes* Studies have shown that people who work third-shift and sleep during the day have to get almost twice as much sleep as someone who sleeps at night because the quality is poor. I guess it could vary on the person but the majority have trouble sleeping during the day. Humans are far from nocturnal. . .but it is possible that amberella's biological clock is confused. . .sometimes irregular sleeping patterns disrupt our ability to get back to the regular.
