HyruleGuardian Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 For anyone that has been reading about it: Tata was his nickname. The nunchucks are there because he used to bring me to karate. The deck of cards are because he used to play all the time. The angel wings are to represent his catholic beliefs. There's also a symbol on top to represent courage. I think it all came together really well. As for it getting done, I ended up getting it without taking any pain killers. The pain really wasn't that bad. It basically felt like a bee sting and bad sunburn combined, but it was tolerable. It hurt the worst when the guy did the outline near my titty and on my collarbone. Now I'm contemplating getting another one. It's funny how addicting these things can be. The tattoo guy wasn't kidding when he told me that...lol.
that.girl Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 its beautiful, he did a great job. . .I'm getting one on my nineteenth birthday. . .nothing so meaningful though.
buckdawg Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 looks good. you made a good choice with the symbology
RayKay Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 I am glad you did not take painkillers Told you it had a sunburn like feeling! Looks great HG, I really like that the cards look a bit worn. Now, take REALLY good care of it - that is really what helps it maintain its colour (it won't be as vibrant as it is initially, but you can retain a lot of it) and form (clarity). Do NOT go in the sun with it for AS LONG AS POSSIBLE. Even then, try to cover it as much as possible. No sunblock on it now, but when healed, always put some over it. Those people whom go to the beach the day after a tattoo and let the sun on it (even if they have sunblock on as it is BAD on a new tatt) are just asking for it to look like hell. Do NOT pick at it.....ever! It is likely going to ITCH LIKE MAD when it starts healing (just as blistered skin from a sunburn would)....do NOT pick, don't "rub it accidentally" to get the itching away....even if not itchy it can be REALLY tempting to pick at the scabs...DON'T! They tell you to avoid chlorinated water, baths, hot tubs, pools (basically anything you are immersing in water...particularly chlorine but I have been told it should be all) - do so! I know I have heard varying time lines, but the smartest artist I know said try and wait at LEAST 3 months, ideally 6. Showers of course are fine, but for the initial couple days do NOT run water on it - cover it/seal it. After a few days, you can let water go over it. Do not use any harsh soaps. I was told to use an anti-bacterial soap once I started letting it go under water but to be VERY gentle - no scrubbing, rubbing - just kinda let it run over then rinse. I know different artists advise different ointments/creams. Do NOT use polysporin/bactarin/neosporin - I know it is OFTEN advised but the petroleum jelly in it leads to FADING. Just apply a fragrance free lotion (I was told Lubriderm was best - the sensitive skin one - but I myself am allergic to lanolin so told the next best was just Vaseline Intensive Care). Keep it moisturized but NOT overly so. Too much is just as bad as not enough (too dry it can crack and affect colouration, lines, etc). It is still very likely in a few years you may need a touch-up on it, but the better you preserve it the less you will need it, and the better the original lines will stay (because touch-ups can't cover "bleeding" so much). Enjoy! My tip....they are addictive, but take some time off before getting another one and make sure you REALLY want another one, don't rush into getting another to have another as I know many people whom do and end up regretting it!
trying2007 Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 go and get aquapher, baby ointment, or something like that. it comes in adult style too, but this is a small bottle for babies, it is the best stuff, it will keep it moist while it heals and it wont hardly scab. I have 5, and yes they are very very addicting. I have a half sleave on my left arm and i will have another by this time next year. BUt take care of it, wrap it in shrink wrap at night till the ink bleeds out and if you put that aqupher stuff on it, it wont itch as much, just a light coat tho, its thick stuff, and wash it a lot, 3-4 times per day. got any questions let me know, i feel like im a pro at this already, i had 19 hours on my left arm and it had to heal 5 times before more pain.
Hope75 Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 Great tattoo and a nice tribute to your grandfather. Did he have any tattoos?
ghost69 Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 no pic when i looked. i'm sure it looks great. but yeah, now that i have one, i find them very addicting.
HyruleGuardian Posted December 22, 2007 Author Posted December 22, 2007 Thanks for all the advice guys. I washed the tattoo down with antibacterial soap and put some aquaphor on it 3 times today. It is really itchy and it stings whenever anything rubs up against it. There's been a lot of the ink bleeding off onto my shirts. This is normal, right?
RayKay Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 Yeah, that happens - I had to wear old shirts/pants until it stopped. Told you it would be madly itchy!!!!
ghost69 Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 i used 0 soap on mine. i wouldn't use any abrasive soaps on it though. you don't want to dry that area out. just use non-fragrance lotion. that is all i did. had my whole back done. 5 days later i was good. but i had ink all over the place. not so much on my shirt, but my bed from rollin around at night had designs all over it. washed out though. oh, i caught the pic. nice.
