Talking to my boss about getting another job...

So...I had a big problem when a co-worker dumped me. It hurt to be around him, but I stuck in there and have decided I'm not going to quit my job just because of him.

 

I want to get a second job though. I'm not getting enough hours at work, and this job is so far away, that I think it would help to get a closer job that I could work at on more busy days of the week.

 

I already know it won't be possible for me to drive all the way from my classes on certain days of the week to work for only a few hours then commute back home.

 

The problem? I told my boss the three days I won't be available to work starting January...but I haven't asked him if I could possibly work at another place on those days.

 

I'm nervous with all the gossip that's been going around he and everyone else will think I'm doing this because of the break-up...but it honestly is just the reason I said- the commute!

 

My job is in the complete opposite direction of both of my classes whereas the place I was thinking of applying is very close by to both of my classes...so it makes sense to me to get another job rather than just not working three days a week, and thus, not being able to pay bills... With the gas prices it's almost as if I can't AFFORD to go to work

 

I'm just feeling so nervous...scared he'll say no I guess...or that more gossip will start up...

From what I gather, youre 17 going to highschool or local college and have a part time job just to make some money (not a long term career related job)

 

I would definitely find a closer more convienent job, especially if you are spending alot of the money you earn just to drive to work.

I don't see why your employer needs to know if you are working a second job on your days off?
