Hi, I have known that I like girls for while but I have never told anyone because I am frightened to, I had girlfriend back at home but since I move to the UK I have not had, I have crush on a friend and do not know what to do, she is straight and has boyfriend, I think it is partly this that is making me so miserable at moment.

Gosh, I'm really sorry. If it makes you feel any better, this happens to almost all gay people. I had a crush on my straight roommate for almost two years.

Do you have any gay friends that you might be interested in?

Do you have the same when you have crush?, for me it is not just sexual attraction but I just have desire to be close to her, to hold her and stroke her hair and for her to feel same way about me, sorry if I not make much sense.

Oh, yes, I very much felt the same way... if you want to read about it, it's in a really old thread called roommate crush in this forum. I'll go get a link to it for you.

You said that you had a girlfriend back at home. How did you meet her?

Are you at University now? Are there any clubs or groups that you can go to to meet gay and lesbian people? Do you have any gay or lesbian friends at your school?

Have you talked with anyone at your school about your feelings for your crush?

My girlfrined back home I meet online and we talk for a long time first, she was same as me because she could not tell anyone how she felt either, I am not at University yet I go next year, at moment I just take English class to make me up to good standard but I will be going to University next year and I look forward to it very much, I have not been able to talk to anyone about my feelings and my crush because only 2 people know that I like girls, one is my ex girlfriend and other is best friend at home.

This will be kind of long post... bear with me.

Being a student in another country is difficult. I really admire people that go to another country to study, but I don't think I could do it myself. It is hard to make friends when you don't speak the language.

Add in the fact that you are lesbian, and that just makes it even more difficult.

I think that, as you start to settle in the UK and you feel more comfortable, you will begin to make more friends and you will be able to tell more people that you are a lesbian. I've never been to the UK, but my impression is that they are much nicer to gay people than we are here in America. (Does somebody from England want to comment on this?) I also think that once you begin at the University you will make many new friends and meet other people that are gay and lesbian.

Here are some things I would do in the meantime:

1) Since you said you met your girlfriend online, I would try going online in the UK and try to meet somebody nearby. The internet is a very good way to meet other gay and lesbian people.

2) I know you don't go to the University yet, but there might be clubs or groups at the University you can join. Look for an international student group so you can visit and make friends with students that are having the same experiences you are having. I strongly recommend becoming involved in the international student community- that will help a lot.

3) Also look for gay or lesbian clubs at the University to help you meet other gay and lesbian students.

Is there anybody here from England that can offer more specific advice?
