Weeblie Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 Like the phrase 'hooking up', this has been something I find very vague. Usually I hear it after someone's been cheated on or when someone is describing someone who refuses to settle. But that all reeks of bitterness and I think there are better terms that can be used. Like cheater or she's/he's just not interested. I'm interested in knowing how you would define a player? (please keep things gender neutral) Is it necessarily a bad thing? I know this sounds naive, but I'm truly curious...
Batya33 Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 I would define a player as a person who has little regard for other peoples' feelings, who lies to a person usually as far as wanting a commitment in order to get that person into bed, without ever intending to be committed to that person or even to explore the chance of a potential relationship, and then leaves soon after the sex or once he or she gets tired of the sex.
CaptainPlanet Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 Player is a term women use to describe a man that beats them at their own game.
anggrace Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 To me a player is someone who is dishonest. Someone who is looking to fufill certain needs or desires and will do so at any cost and without consideration for the other person. A player is careless and feels no remorse.
tylercdurden2004 Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 A player is a participant in a game. Depending on what you define as a game in your life will determine what you define as a player.
mintblossom Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 To me a player is someone who is dishonest. Someone who is looking to fufill certain needs or desires and will do so at any cost and without consideration for the other person. A player is careless and feels no remorse. yes, very good definition. batya33 used a good definition too.
rockr Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 player is someone who plays more than 1 game at a time.
MushroomGod Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 Everyone is a player in the game but a few actually make plays... they are the playmakers. Seriously though there is no such thing. Who doesn't like it when they can attract the opposite sex?
Batya33 Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 I think it's awful to define "player" as a male.
Pegasus Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 Player is a term women use to describe a man that beats them at their own game. True. Totally true. First time I agree with this guy
Sweet Buttabean Jellayroll Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 an outdated word used to describe what we now call as a "pimp"....and a pimp would be someoen who goes around and gets many women, or has a strong sense of game.......thus the term "Pimpage" "Pimp-a-licious" "pimpy" "pimpish"
servedcold Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 As SBJ says, the term is street slang for "pimp," and it is overused today by women (hardly ever hear men using it other than rap culture) who fall a bit too easily for a flashy guy and later regret their actions.
ghost69 Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 player = man or woman. they get what they want from others at their discretion. doesn't have to just be sex either. usually, the person the player played gets upset. but some are slick enough to not let this happen. i'm sick of reading HE on this whole thread. and player does not have to be sex. but it is usually associated with a guy who has a lot of women around or gets a lot of women with no relationship ties at all. it's basically a guy that refuses to settle cause of the fun he is having. this is society's way of misconstruing the term though as it is usually gender biased.
Weeblie Posted December 10, 2007 Author Posted December 10, 2007 Batya and Ghost... Agreed. This shouldn't be gender specific and I don't want this to become some sort of male hate fest. Going to edit the orginal post.
JadedStar Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 There are many interpretations but on ENA i have seen many posts where a guy is referred to as a player but IMO they are not. A player is someone who will deceive a woman and make her think he is really into her when in reality he only wants one thing. A true player typically doesn't really respect women but likes to have a lot of notches on his bedpost. He will wine and dine her and shower her with lots of affection and compliments and once his mission is completed - slept with her - he has gone as fast as JackFrost on a 60 degree spring morning. Some women will go out with a guy who is completely upfront about not wanting anything serious and when she decides to not believe that and suddenly WANT something serious she calls him a PLAYER! if he doesn't follow suit. That is not a player. She was not played, unless you count the fact that she played herself. And yes, there are women players too, they just are typically referred to as gold diggers since most women who play men are not always playing to get sex, they play to get freebies. But it is the same exact concept.
ycmanvs Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 I believe that a player is a person who uses people. A better word would be oportunist. Someone who takes advantage of other people's vulnerabilities.
Pegasus Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 A player is someone who will deceive a woman and make her think he is really into her when in reality he only wants one thing. Which thing?
Orlander Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 a player (or playa) would say something like "ladies, if you want to know what a player is come over to my place and i'll show you"
JadedStar Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 Which thing? Monopoly and play money Pegasus.
Pegasus Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 Monopoly and play money Pegasus. That's two things
ghost69 Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 guaranteed all the guys on the field. except the guys wearing black or white or both black and white.
JadedStar Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 That's two things BUt to get one they automatically get the other. Monopoly was the "thing" to get the play money. Why must you try to torment me so Pegasus? LOL
