ConfusedDater Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 Maybe that's a women thing but I realized that's probably why I'm not comfortable on dates because I always recycle clothes I have had for months and never wear anything fresh and new. And i think I would FEEL DIFFERENTY on a first date if I went out and bought a new outfit. On my last Date I had a new hairstyle with a nicely trimmed mustache but OLD Clothes and OLD SHOES. I think once I have on NEWER SHOES and CLOTHES with the New Hairstyle, I will defintely FEEL BETTER about myself and perform better on first dates. Usually I don't feel like spending money on a new outfit because I'm on a budget but in the future I will just have to charge it if I want to succeed at dating. So dio any men buy anything NEW before a Date? like a Shirt? or Shoes??
justin1305 Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 I usually get a new shirt, but thats it. I see little point in spending 100's on a complete outfit knowing that i might never see her again if the date doesnt work out. But even just a new shirt gives me more confidence on the date. Just make sure you look casually smart, like black trousers and a nice shirt with resonably smart shoes. Dont go overboard and look too formal as this may give the wrong impression. (your on a date, not a business lunch). the mustache thing is excellent. Girls love a well groomed man.
Day_Walker Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 I cannot recall buying any new clothing for a date, while it is important to look presentable that doesnt mean that your clothes have to be new.

See I don't have any NOT AT WORK clothes so What I would usually do is weaer a long sleeve dress shirt with Jeans.
someguy88 Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 New clothes definitely make me feel better. I'll usually buy something new. It really depends on how happy I am with my wardrobe. As for haircuts; I'm pretty anal when it comes to that and usually get trimmed about once every two weeks. Also, I kind of have a watch buying addiction. lol Something about having a shiny expensive watch just feels good. I know that it's vein, but I don't care. lol
Dako Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 Are your current clothes so bad? If so, maybe you shouldn't just be concerned about first dates.
ConfusedDater Posted December 9, 2007 Author Posted December 9, 2007 Are your current clothes so bad? If so, maybe you shouldn't just be concerned about first dates. I only have work clothes, so basically I was wearing what I would wear to work the only difference was I didn't have on a TIE and my shirt wasn't Tucked in
Poe Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 I'm accustomed to being complimented on the way I dress. I never buy new clothes unless the old clothes won't do.
Batya33 Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 No but I definitely had my "first date outfits" (depending on the location/venue/time). I always believed in the "show up (on time), look nice, be nice as my obligations. I didn't want to invest in a new outfit just for a first date because that puts more pressure on the situation to live up to certain expectations. I did notice what the man wore and I did notice if he dressed inappropriately (i.e. if he chose a swanky bar and showed up in old jeans and sneakers).
WaterIsLife Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 Never! I always, always wear something that I feel most comfortable in though, even if I have other clothes that are "nicer", newer, or supposedly look good on me. For me it comes down to what, to me, looks and feels best.
Batya33 Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 I will prioritize "look good" over comfort for a first date just like I would for an interview. First dates haven't been a big deal to me for many years so I don't need extra "comfort" with what I wear.
Suesser Tod Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 I've done it before, but only a couple of times. Those werent my best dates ever, and I've found that the most important thing is to be confident, not what you're wearing. However, if new clothes boost your confidence, go for it.

New clothes will be key for me
wiser Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 There you go. New clothes will be key for me You need more than new clothes. You need to change your expectations and your attitude regarding women and dating. A new shirt isn't going to change a thing.
kool_kid_86 Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 i auctually don't do anything different on my first date. i just act the same and everything. i figured there is no need to set a high standard for yourself the first time you meet someone because if you do, they will only expect higher. i'd say just be yourself, and if your partner likes it all the better. then gradually as you get to know each other, you can do little things to impress 'em.
rootcause43 Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 I've done it before. However, it is usually when I need a wardrobe update anyway and this serves as a good excuse.
NewPhillyGuy Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 I've done it before, but not often. No big deal.

A new shirt isn't going to change a thing. Its not always a persons attitude that is the problem. Other problems could be causing the attitude problem.
ghost69 Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 never. i don't need to impress with clothing.
