What does Happiness mean to you?

Have you ever taken much thought to answer this question?

I think we often can get caught up in letting life just happen.

Have you ever taken a step back and really looked at your life and what you want and need to be truly happy?

Thanks!

Have I ever given that question any thought? LOL

that's all i thought about a few months ago!!

i believe that we are responsible for our own happiness. crappy things happen to everyone, some more crappy than others. when they do happen we have two choices: allow them to affect our mood, get us down and basicaly just wallow in self pity OR we can accept things as they are, if possible try to find the silver lining and move on.

Buckdawg is right about this.... I'm unhappy cause I'm still heartbroken, I can imagine once I'm through this being ok..... thats all I want... to get over the sad stuff, and be myself again...

But you know it isn't as easy as it sounds either....

I would say self-acceptance. Acceptance that I am not perfect and full of flaws but knowing, really believing, that I'm worthy and capable of love anyway...love for myself and from others.

You really nailed that one. Totally agree.

Having serenity.

Which usually means I have acceptance, I am comfortable in my own skin, I am comfortable with where I am at in life, with where I am going in life, and there is harmony - harmony with myself and in my relationships with others. Things are just calm and balanced, but excitement doesn't really apply.

The times when I'm happiest happen when I'm living in the moment and taking in everything around me. I find I feel most grateful and happiest when I'm outside and just soaking in the elements. This gives me a sense of peacefulness and fulfillment. (It's hard to do this at this time of year, though, when it's cold and dreary).

Most of the time, though, I find myself thinking about what I don't have and what I want to attain in the future (better job, boyfriend, etc.) and when I'm focused on those things I'm unhappy. So getting outside and away from all those expectations is always welcome.

Fulfillment, whether that comes in the form of work, intellectual activity, or love.

Love is fulfilling if it involves the whole of the person, willing good for another in a disinterested and complete way. I have never felt this.

I have felt happy when working though.

I'm the same way. Sometimes I get a little too wrapped up in my own little world - my ambitions, my goals, my wants, that I tend to really lose myself in it all. That's why I really like to volunteer - it sort of brings me back down to Earth for a bit and reminds me that hey, my life is awesome! It's good to have ambitions, goals and wants, but stop focusing too much on them, or focusing on the things which I don't have. I find that to be a quick way to misery for myself.

Very well said and concise, easyguy

I agree hopeful. Sometimes I think we can loose site of this and thereforeeee loose it after awhile. It really does come down to this, the good and the bad. Thanks!

Thanks L4L. Its amazing how we can forget to do this sometimes. Forgetting to do this is letting life happen to you rather than living life!

Thanks Cimmie. That really wraps it up nicely into just a single word!
