cichlid Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 My sister has it and has had it for a few days. She's now on meds. Finals are coming up and the last thing I want is to get strep. I haven't carpooled with her in awhile and I've been avoiding contact with her. I've been careful about things around the house. Like I'm washing my hands quite a bit. I've never had strep in my life but been exposed to it a few times...what's the likelihood that I get it?
ghost69 Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 if you are avoiding her, you should be okay. it's only contagious for about 24 hours if she has meds. so you should be okay. but u can go to the doc and tell them your sister has it and you are very close with her. they might give you penicillin just in case.
lizer Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 wash your hands. dont share drinks. all the normal crap and you will be fine. my roommate had strep in college and all you have to do is be vigilant and not be stupid about it. also, to the above poster. if any doctor gives out penicillin 'just in case'.. they should be fired for retardedness.
Miss Firecracker Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 Your doctor may be willing to give you the test now if you tell him the situation. Once our boys had it, and my husband was a carrier and didn't even know it.
amtjrtcet Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 I get strep every yr just about. But I've always had problems with my tonsils. Wash your hands, avoid her, and gargle with warm salt water at night. If my throat starts to hurt a little and I gargle it usually feels a bit better the next day.
