"What were we thinking?"

I have come to the uncanny conclusion that if we were to first change how we think, our actions will soon follow. So, with this in mind (pun intended), I spent countless moments reflecting on my life. My deeds. My faults and accomplishments. What I know and want to learn. Conclusion: I made my mark on society for sure. A trail of positive memories and gratitude. And yes I have. left marks that were unwelcome though... But nonetheless, I left a stain, a blemish, a dent somewhere on several people.

What am I going to do about it? Think. Yes, a thinking man reflects on his accomplishments and short comings as well. So, if I were to change the way I think, it will change my point of view, which will in turn change the way I do things. I may (in whole or part) share your opinion about the meaning of the colors; my sociological position on race and religion, gender and sex. Whatever the case may be, change begins with thought, just as the first step in any journey, one must be willing to at least try.

And when you at least try, you have something to talk about. It is better than quitting without trying. You can talk about the steps that you have taken towards an objective or idea but failed. Failure is ok, as long as you were sincere in your attempts. Yet, there is nothing worse than a self-defeating attitude or behavior, whereas you sabotage your own chances of success, happiness and opportunities to have anything/anyone beneficial come into your life. This type of behavior feeds comfort zones and "Venus Fly Traps." ("Feeeed meeeeee Seymour! Ya knows what I likes..." ['Audrey'- Little Shop of Horrors]). And as long as we feed (into) any drama that engulfs us, it will continue to grow, fester and dominate your co-existence in the dramatists daily life.

When your thoughts are occupied with ways to survive, adjust to the drama or function within any given situation/relationship, it takes away from any and every opportunity to actually live happily, appreciate sincerely and enjoy all the benefits of any given situation or relationship.

So, just don't "Do" - THINK. Think of all the kind words and deeds that you can say and exhibit in opposition to the negative energy that can ruin a perfectly good and delicious, well intended moment in your life...like your relationship with others.

This way when you reflect on your countless moments in your life, be grateful that you have created some purposeful memories to think about while on your next trip down memory lane. And don't feed into the drama or the giant Venus fly trap.

You look too young to have a "My Way" moment.

I'm 52 and still haven't mastered this "life" thing yet.

...a "My Way" moment?

The post came from moments of reflection and experience. I am also, if it makes a difference a poet and I teach poetry. Nonetheless, I hope that the post helped.

Ever had poetry published and (if so) where?

A "My Way" moment is when you've lived your life and you're reflecting back on it. I reflect back a lot and more of my life has gone than lies ahead but at 52 I still think there's some life left in me.

AMEN Brother. AMEN.

More time has past us by than others have yet to witness. I embrace this transition and time in my life.

Thanks
