Casey55 Posted November 30, 2007 Share Posted November 30, 2007 I realize now that I've always had a minor self-injury disorder, but at age 51, I've now started to cut myself with razors to alleviate severe anxiety over my son's constant drug use. Has anyone heard of people starting to cut in their middle ages? Link to comment
Balbina Posted November 30, 2007 Share Posted November 30, 2007 I'm sure it happens. I don't think it's just an outlet for teenage rebellion... although that is when I did it. I just realized though that it was more of a cry for help for myself... I needed to SEE the result of my pain. There are other healthier ways to cope...cutting is the easy way out. Link to comment

girl friend Posted December 9, 2007 Share Posted December 9, 2007 In certain tribes in India, the sudam, aboriginal australia also reported, young boys will withstand horrific beatings publicly by the men of the tribe for 'status of the toughest'./ To show all the other boys what they can stand. They choose to be beaten and grin and laugh at the time. They seem to be switching off the physical pain. I'd call that self-injury. Sarey's right, any age, any race, any country. its a good quote! Jeen Posted December 9, 2007 Share Posted December 9, 2007 It usually starts at a young age but there are exceptions to the rule, but if you have a close look at your past you will find some of the signs from a young age where there but never played a huge roll, but with the anxiety it turned to self-harm, something you should ask yourself is it worth, destroying yourself because your son is doing it with drugs. I know it is hard to stop but don't you think it would be better for you and your son if you went for therapy to help with the anxiety's, sow you could help your son for you both are suffering, and if it is not changed it will end in a tragedy, for self-harm is a emotional hell that points to a life of pain, sadness and loneliness one never can fully control. Self-harm is an addiction and a short-term solution to your problem. Link to comment

And didn't want us to split up. She wanted to keep both. I've cut hands, wrists, chest (over the heart), arms, legs. I've never been suicidal or self destructive but this hit with no warning. After I lost trust and dug it turns out she is really a love addict and basically had become several guys "ideal" woman-- I was the main guy but the new guy was wealthy (but apparently not that great in bed). I'm pretty much slowly dying at this point. Trying to find some new person to hold on to for emotional anchor to life through next valentine's day. Link to comment

Theres no point just clinging onto someone else though, you have to be ready to move on. You have to be able to fairly love someone else. Otherwise you'll just get hurt again and hurt the new girl. Try to remember the good times fondly, and move on. Don't let it kill you. Link to comment

I used to cut myself Very badly so bad i had to get stitched more then a dozen times!! but I got better from my depression and i quit Although now I have so many scars on my body my body looks like a map!! Cutting is not the way to cope with things, and at your age it can be extremely dangerous you are always at risk for cutting in the wrong spots! Be careful and be smart. Link to comment

Wow, respect there beckyfisher. It sounds like you really turned all that around into something positive. You got better and quit. Thats incredible.
