itsallgrand
Take a big breath and step outside. No, no, don't invite them to come with you. Just you. Walk around a bit. Shake it off. You can save whatever you're doing, right? Link to comment
Pocket Rocket
Why don't you politely ask them to lower their voices? these animals dont understand politeness Have you actually tried? And if they're being noisy in a place where they're meant to be quiet (i.e. the library) then you should go to the librarian and complain, she/he will either tell them to be quiet or kick them out, usually people listen to them. And if you ask them to be quiet the same way you're typing here then of course they won't respond. Link to comment
Ash
Sounds like the talking is the straw that broke the camel's back, or in this case is the final trigger for your headache. I suspect there are lots of stresses in your life and when you're trying to concentrate these noises are distracting you even though on a comparative scale aren't that loud. The real world can be a tough place, I work in a plane and just the other side of a poorly sound resistant door there is a full production facility with 250 ton presses and lift trucks complete with backup alarms all day long. It's louder than talking, but in a way less distracting because there's no information in the noise. Talking is a problem because your brain automatically tries to follow the conversation so often lowered the voices can almost make it worse since you (subconsciously) end up concentrating even harder on the sound to understand it. Rather than expecting them to shut up you are likely better just to find ways to deal with it. As other's have said, earplugs or headphones. Find another place to study, perhaps one where you can listen to something you want to like some music you are familiar with. If you're studying or working try to change what you're looking at from time to time to keep it interesting. If you get more involved with what you're doing because you can keep the interest up you may not even notice the talking. Link to comment
yeawutever
Actually some people are stubborn as a mule. No matter how hard you explained that it annoys, they simple won't listen so it would be wise to have earplugs. Link to comment

I think you should see your office counciler for that one. You understand judging a group of people based on something like "they talk with annoying accents and loudly on the phone thus they are animals" is not only completely racist it's the most backwards thing I've heard in a long time. Somebody needs, help and it isn't the guy on the cell... Link to comment
tommy_bud
I feel your rage. Was sitting in the airport last night during 3 hour layover. I don't care that people talk on their phones, but this dude sat two seats away from me, turn in my direction, and blabbed about nonsensical crap in his lispy gay voice at a volume louder then necessary. I was having visions of stabbing him in the chest, repeatedly. Here's what I was thinking of. While not necessarily legal, you can buy these small remote devices which you can aim at people cell phones which will kill their connection temporarily. Man I wanted on so bad yesterday Link to comment

Ash
I think a lot of people talk loudly on a cell phone because they can't hear properly. There's not necessarily a coresponence. If you're in a noisy place and can't hear it doesn't mean you need to yell into the phone. Sometimes if somebody is talking loudly enough for me to clearly hear, I'll start pretending they're talking to me and answer back when thay ask a question etc. Once they actually become aware somebody else is getting all the details of what they're saying they often take it somewhere else, get off the phone, or talk more quietly. itsallgrand
haha. Once I got stuck on a bus between two seats of avid cell phone users. Phone people in all - me in the middle. I'm not a fan of yabbering and ringing cell phones on the bus to begin with, and they guys behind me were speaking another language real frigging loud. One I had no clue about, couldn't even pick up a word. But it had a lot of high pitched tones to it. The guy and girl up front of me were speaking another language too. For some reason, that annoyed me. Maybe because I couldn't understand it and so it becomes like pure noise. Can't understand the words, just the tone and shuffling of body noises. So how do you interject nicely? It's just really distracting and awkward. No where to retreat to. I felt like the caged animal. Link to comment
buckdawg
took the kids to see Harry Potter Saturday and someone's cell phone went off. thank god they didn't answer but they must have shown 56 clips asking people to turn off their cell phones. is it really that hard to be considerate? Bankers24
Is there a security guard? I had this problem in my university library where someone was talking on a cell phone which is prohibited. After talking to the person on the cell phone and getting a response that they didn't care it was prohibited, I complained to the security guard who then went over and kicked the person out of the library. I would find an employee or security guard if I were you! I absoluletly agree that talking on a cell phone in a prohibited area like a library or computer lab is very RUDE!! Good luck and don't stress too much! Link to comment
CarnelianButterfly
Try sitting in on class with 30 people and one of them answers and talks on her phone in the middle of class. I was surprised the instructor didn't toss her out, I would have. Her highness was an idiot any way, while it made the grade curve make my grade all the better, it still would have been vindicating for her get hit in the backside by the door. Link to comment
