i miss her 2
I don't know what to do with myself right now. I have approximately 60 dollars, I'm 24 and I still live at home with my parents. I went to school for a while and I got my associate of arts degree but I have been working at the same kennel for 5 years. I tried going to a major university this last semester for English but I dropped out because a couple things happened in my life and I was distracted. I was only taking 2 classes at the time so it wasn't that big of a deal. Well, I still owe 700 bucks to the school...which my rents might pay for. I wanna go back to school really bad but they are saying I blew my chance. My brother gets to go..he gets a free ride basically. He doesn't even work and he has racked up way more money than I ever have with his DUI that he got. So that argument is not even valid. He owes them way more money. The truth is I really don't know waht to do in school but thought about going for business. My main passion is music though and I think it would be pointless to go to school for that. I want a degree so I can make more money. My parents just keep telling me to get a full time job and I want to...but I don't want to end up there for the rest of my life. I want a degree and I want a good job. I'm torn on what to do. They yell at me everyday while my brother is picking out his classes and getting free money. I don't know what to do about getting my own place, somehow paying for school, figuring out exactly what to do, etc. I'm so pissed off about all this that I argue with them everyday and sometimes I believe I have nothing to even live for because I would rather be dead than be in the same house with these a*******. What should I do? Link to comment
fragmint
first of all. stop blaming your parents. they gave you a chance, and theyre right, you blew it. take responsibility for whats happened so that you can move on instead of sitting there blaming everyone else. secondly go get a full time job and save up money to go to weekend classes or night school. some places even offer training courses for other degrees or some sort of program to help you pay for school. stop wasting time comparing yourself to your brother and blaming your parents for YOUR mistakes. Lionel Hutz
Sounds like you know what you want and what it takes, yet you are not big on making decisions. Link to comment
Entropy Smith
Get a job...and do your music...and go to school...and start your business...once you learn to make the most of your time you can do amazing things. Link to comment
agent1607307371
Stop listening to your parents /depending on them to put you in school. Stop looking to what your brother is getting. That will just **** you off even more. Get a new job. Find out what areas of music you would most like to be involved with and work towards paying your way to do that at school. Link to comment
i miss her 2
What sucks is I now realize that I could have just stayed in school. I let trivial crap get in the way. I actually liked going too. Link to comment

I don't know if I can do that in school. I mean, they have some music programs in school but usually you either end up with no job or a job teaching and I don't want to do that. I just need to get rich. I need alot of money so I can live comfortable and also do what I enjoy (playing in a band). Any more suggestions? lol Link to comment
fragmint
so basically you dont wanna work hard but you wanna get everything you want aka bum off your parents. good luck. Link to comment
Dako
This may be a bit blunt, but I think it means something. Schools are businesses. As long as you give them money, a teacher will lead you through whatever major you enter on a form for as long as you cough up money and don't flunk out. It's more important to know what you want from life and go for it. Schools will always be easier to navigate than the real world because you can change fields each semester, but careers aren't so easy to change. I'd recommend getting a FT job and feeding yourself, then starting your life independent of an institution funded by your parents. I suspect you're lost because you have no idea what you want, and languishing in academia as a convenient alternative. Everyone has to deal with this. Link to comment

Won't it be nearly impossible to work FT, pay for my own place/food, play gigs, and somehow pay for school? How do I get student loans and all that? I feel like I'm getting so old now at 24. I mean, I do have alot of credit which is good..so I'm looking at 2 more years in school maybe. Link to comment
Dako
Re-read your first post. You said you don't know what you want to do. What good are two more years of school if you have no idea what you want? Why should your parents pay for two more years of indecision? Link to comment

I know that I can probably go for English and pass, but what I am really interested in is pursuing my music. I guess school really is a back up plan. I mean, making it big really isn't practical anyway. Link to comment
i miss her 2
my biggest fear is that I'll just get stuck at some dead end job that doesn't pay that great because I never finished college. Link to comment
easyguy
I am sure this must be difficult for you. I think it would be a good idea, though, to re-consider what is most important right now. I, too, am a musician -- in school and working part-time. As I meet more people in general, not just musicians, the more I realize the world isn't going to necessarily change for us, so we have a responsibility to adapt to it. A phenominal bassist I have played with many times also works 5 days a week to help pay the bills. You would not think that by listening to him, but that is life. By all means keep playing music, but if you have to eat, you have to eat. Link to comment

Generally there is a payoff that occurs in the middle where what you want and what you need meet. Either something is worth it, or it's not. So sound engineering or something like that has never appealed? Link to comment
